Super Moon vs. Micro Moon

From Images 108
Did you see the big, bright, beautiful Full Moon Wednesday night? That was actually a Micro Moon! On that night, the smallest Full Moon of 2012 reached its full phase only about 4 hours before apogee, the most distant point from Earth in the Moon's elliptical orbit. Of course, earlier this year on May 6, a Full Super Moon was near perigee, the closest point in its orbit. The relative apparent size of November 28's Micro Moon (right) is compared to the famous May 6 Super Moon in these two panels, matching telescopic images from Bucharest, Romania. The difference in apparent size represents a difference in distance of just under 50,000 kilometers between apogee and perigee, given the Moon's average distance of about 385,000 kilometers. How long do you have to wait to see another Full Micro Moon? Until January 16, 2014, when the lunar full phase will occur within about 3 hours of apogee. (APOD)

>2012: Beginning of the End or a New Beginning

"In recent months, I've been exploring the rabbit hole of 2012 prophecy and possibility, a beguiling mixture of myth, spirituality, and hope that humans will finally awaken to the global ecological and economic catastrophes we're creating and make a fundamental shift in our approach, whether that's sparked by cosmic energies or our own earthly intention.

When the Mayan calendar ends on Dec. 21 – a date that also marks the Winter Solstice and the peak of our alignment with the galactic center (Earth, sun, and the dark center of the Milky Way lining up for the first time in recorded human history) – it will be a day anticipated by millions of people around the world. Thanks to the modern amplification by pop culture and the Internet, it will be an unprecedented and potentially auspicious astrological, energetic, and cultural moment."

>2012 Mayan Apocalypse Rumors Have Dark Side, NASA Warns

"NASA scientists took time on Wednesday (Nov. 28) to soothe 2012 doomsday fears, warning against the dark side of Mayan apocalypse rumors — frightened children and suicidal teens who truly fear the world may come to an end Dec. 21.

These fears are based on misinterpretations of the Mayan calendar. On the 21st, the date of the winter solstice, a calendar cycle called the 13th b'ak'tun comes to an end. Although Maya scholars agree that the ancient Maya would not have seen this day as apocalyptic, rumors have spread that a cosmic event may end life on Earth on that day.

Thus NASA's involvement. The space agency maintains a 2012 information page debunking popular Mayan apocalypse rumors, such as the idea that a rogue planet will hit Earth on Dec. 21, killing everyone. (In fact, astronomers are quite good at detecting near-Earth objects, and any wandering planet scheduled to collide with Earth in three weeks would be the brightest object in the sky behind the sun and moon by now.)"

Silent Spring and Chiron Return

Silent Spring is a book written by Rachel Carson and published by Houghton Mifflin on September 27, 1962. The book is widely credited with helping launch the contemporary American environmental movement. (Wikipedia)

Astrologically- the Sept. 28, 1962 New Moon @ 5 Libra, featured the centaur planet Chiron (discovered in 1977), symbol of the wounded healer archetype, opposing the key aspect of the 60's- Uranus (awakenings & revolutions) conjunct Pluto (destruction & renewal). As a midpoint picture it looks like this: Chiron = Uranus/Pluto. Since Chiron has a 50 year cycle, the Silent Spring and US environmental movement are having their Chiron Return- a life milestone. (Generally speaking, Chironic processes involve healing duality and whole-making; realizing deeper levels of synthesis in mind, body, and soul.) Currently, Uranus and Pluto have reached the first crisis-point, the waxing square, in their 138 year unfolding cycle birthed in the mid 60's.
From United States
Chiron entered Pisces the Fishes, the sign most associated with the oceans, the exact day of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig explosion in the Gulf of Mexico- a environmental disaster of epic proportions. Chiron and Neptune (aka Poseidon- god of the seas) have been in almost lock-step with each other, but as Chiron moves more quickly it's beginning to separate. Their exact conjunction occurred in the late degrees of Aquarius. Deepwater Horizon oil spill

From Mundane Charts 2
Mr. Ford's Sun-Mercury -180- Mars (conjunct Antares) reflects a forceful, combative character. And his birth lunations are insightful- 3 days after Rob Ford's birth, there was a Full Moon @ 9.53 Sagittarius conjunct the red, royal star Antares- rival of Mars. And the May 16, 1969 New Moon before his birth fell @ 25.17 Taurus conjunct the malefic star Algol Beta Persei- 'losing one's head'. The transiting South Node (attritional influence) of the Moon is currently 26 Taurus, approaching this New Moon. The degrees of the birth lunations remain sensitive throughout one's life, and can be triggered by transits.

Dark Sand Cascades on Mars

From Images 108
They might look like trees on Mars, but they're not. Groups of dark brown streaks have been photographed by the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter on melting pinkish sand dunes covered with light frost. The above image was taken in 2008 April near the North Pole of Mars. At that time, dark sand on the interior of Martian sand dunes became more and more visible as the spring Sun melted the lighter carbon dioxide ice. When occurring near the top of a dune, dark sand may cascade down the dune leaving dark surface streaks -- streaks that might appear at first to be trees standing in front of the lighter regions, but cast no shadows. Objects about 25 centimeters across are resolved on this image spanning about one kilometer. Close ups of some parts of this image show billowing plumes indicating that the sand slides were occurring even when the image was being taken. (APOD)

Mercury, Venus, Saturn, and Jupiter

The coming weeks are an awesome time to look for planets! This image shows the planets Venus and Saturn closest together in the east before dawn on Monday, November 26. The planet Mercury is moving into view now, too, in the eastern predawn sky, gearing up for a very interesting alignment between Mercury, Venus and Saturn next week. Plus, you can see the planet Jupiter anytime on these late November 2012 nights. Earth will pass between Jupiter and the Sun next week (Sun-Jupiter opposition), placing Jupiter in its best place to observe this year. All four planets – including Mercury – should remain in fine view for the next several weeks. (EarthSky)

Astronomy of the Nov. 28 Lunar Eclipse

From EarthSky~
Smallest Full Moon of year and penumbral Lunar Eclipse Nov. 28:
In North America, we often call the November full moon the Frosty Moon or Beaver Moon. This year, the November full moon gives the world its smallest full moon of the year – and in North America, a penumbral eclipse of the moon before sunrise November 28. In the world’s Eastern Hemisphere – Europe, Africa, Asia, Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand – the penumbral lunar eclipse takes placeafter sunset November 28.
From Images 108
From SPACE.com~
Nov. 28, 9:46 a.m. EST - Full Beaver Moon. Now it is time to set beaver traps before the swamps freeze to ensure a supply of warm winter furs. Another interpretation suggests that the name Beaver Full Moon comes from the fact that the beavers are now active in their preparation for winter. This full moon is also called the Frosty Moon. Since the moon arrives at apogee less than six hours later, this will also be the smallest full moon of 2012. In terms of apparent size, it will appear 12 percent smaller than the full moon of May 5. There is also a penumbral lunar eclipse with this full moon; observers in the western parts of the U.S. and Canada might notice the upper part of the moon appearing slightly darker as 92 percent of the moon’s diameter becomes immersed in the fainter penumbral shadow of Earth.

Cease-Fire Announced in Israel-Gaza Conflict

"Egypt announced a cease-fire agreement between Israel and Hamas effective Wednesday evening local time, the Associated Press reported.

In details of the agreement obtained by news agency, Israel will cease all military activity against the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip at 9 p.m. local time (11 a.m. PST) and Palestinian militants will cease rocket attacks into Israel. After 24 hours of quiet, Gaza's border crossings with Israel will be opened further to allow freer movement of goods and people.

The announcement by Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohamed Amr and U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton followed talks in Cairo between Clinton and Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi." Read More

Fortunately- Venus (peace & love) will still be in her dignity at 29 Libra when tonights cease-fire goes into effect. Venus and Neptune will actually share antiscia/solstice points, which is similar to a conjunction of these two planets. Although a combination of Venus and Neptune can be problematic, because theres a tendency to have unrealistic expectations of others- it's better that Venus is dignified and not yet in Scorpio with Saturn waiting just ahead.
From Asia & Mideast
The cease-fire agreement becomes effective at 9pm, EET, which is only 2 hours and 50 minutes before the Sun enters Sagittarius. A Truce 'imminent' in Gaza

It looks like an Egyptian brokered truce in the Israel-Gaza conflict is imminent. The violence erupted precisely with the Scorpio solar eclipse one week ago. And todays First Quarter Moon marks the halfway point between the Nov. 13 solar eclipse and the Nov. 28 lunar eclipse which is already casting a shadow. Previously noted, is that the eclipsed Moon and Jupiter are rising in Israel and Egypt- which may be a good example of an eclipse with a relatively favorable outcome. Eclipses are not always bad omens.

The timing of this announcement corresponds with retrograde Mercury exactly (to the degree and minute) conjunct the sensitized Nov. 13 solar eclipse degree at todays First Quarter Moon.

Israel-Gaza Violence Escalates

The recent escalation of the conflict between Israel and Hamas-ruled Gaza began precisely with the total solar eclipse @ 21.56 Scorpio on Nov. 13. So we know that there must be strong contacts between this eclipse, the Saros series 133 of which it belongs, and the horoscope for modern Israel as a nation-state.

The seed eclipse of Saros 133 occurred on July 13, 1219- almost 800 years ago. And this Cancer eclipse featured Mars, planet of war & aggression, sharply focused at this time and place (Eclipse Mars = Ascendant/Midheaven) in Israel. In fact, the eclipse Mars (23 Taurus) is square Pluto (28 Leo), and this aspect of extreme power, force and brutality, is closely linked with Israel's natal Sun-Mars square. And it's this natal Sun-Mars square that reflects the toughness and possible belligerent behavior of the Jewish nation- along with it's innate fear of destruction (natal Saturn conjunct Pluto).
From Asia & Mideast
A week before the Nov. 13 Scorpio eclipse I Tweeted; "Wondering if the Nov. 13 solar eclipse @ 22 Scorpio has deeper geo-political significance because it opposes the May 2000 Jupiter-0-Saturn." The May 2000 Jupiter-0-Saturn is otherwise known as the Great Conjunction of 2000, that involves the two planets said to rule time (the Great Chronocrators), Jupiter and Saturn. This 20 year cycle has long been studied and understood to best reflect the natural rise and fall, expansion and contraction, ebb and flow, of economies and civilizations. (As the next 2020 Great Conjunction is in Aquarius, we hope that the reign of materialism will begin to lose it's dominance.)
From Asia & Mideast
The Great Conjunction 2000 (on May 28 @ 23 Taurus) fell right on the Midheaven in the US capital, and conjunct the Israeli Sun (23 Taurus). And the Nov. 13 solar eclipse activated the Great Conjunction degree, and opposed Israel's Sun. The Sun in a national chart signifies the spirit of a country and it's leadership in particular. And the close ties between Israel and the US are obvious to all. But it's the Great Conjunction of 2000 that has brought these two nations to the fore in world events.

The red planet Mars just entered Capricorn (Nov. 17), where it's traditionally considered exalted- like an honored guest. But an exalted planet is thereby empowerd for good or ill, and Mars is currently OOB, out of bounds by declination, and therefore tending to wild extremes. Interestingly- at the minute Mars moved into Capricorn, Saturn (in Scorpio) was rising in Israel. Saturn in Scorpio seems especially important to Israel with an emphasis of fixed signs, and transiting Saturn first squared Israel's Moon (5 Leo) when recent fighting began. Saturn in hard aspect to the Moon (the common people) is often a heavy and even depressive influence. And when Saturn stations direct July 8, 2013 it will be tightly squaring Israel's Moon.

The version of the Israeli chart I prefer (4:37 pm, May 14, 1948) has the Ascendant in the first degree of Scorpio, ruled by Mars. As goes Mars, so goes the Jewish state. Now that Mars is exalted in Capricorn, Israel is emboldened to fight, but perhaps in a more controlled and systematic manner (Mars in Saturn-ruled Capricorn). And a dramatic hit specific to this Scorpio rising chart that's only now beginning, is solar arc Mars conjunct the natal Ascendant exact Oct. 2013. This is a rare contact that will naturally bring out the fighting spirit- especially if there is a perception of threat. Mars does not mess around under such circumstances.

The lunar eclipse at the end of November 2012, has the eclipse Moon and Jupiter rising in the entire region where the Mideast conflict is unfolding. The highest possibilities thereby implied are successful negotiations. But realistically speaking, the militant Hamas will not surrender it's weapons or rockets, and if the Israeli military goes into Gaza and Palestinian civilians are killed, it will stir international condemnation that might further the deep-seated enmities between the Jews and Arabs, and lead to a more widespread conflagration.

The two ancient malefic planets, Mars and Saturn, sharply focused in the Mideast battle zone at the 2012 Winter Solstice, aka the Capricorn solar ingress, does not inspire hope or optimism that this situation will be resolved quickly.

Like a Diamond in the Sky

From Images 108
A dark Sun hung over Queensland, Australia on Wednesday morning during a much anticipated total solar eclipse. Storm clouds threatened to spoil the view along the northern coast, but minutes before totality the clouds parted. Streaming past the Moon's edge, the last direct rays of sunlight produced a gorgeous diamond ring effect in this scene from Ellis Beach between Cairns and Port Douglas. Winking out in a moment, the diamond didn't last forever though. The area was plunged into darkness for nearly 2 minutes as the Moon's shadow swept off shore toward Australia's Great Barrier Reef and out into the southern Pacific. Ranging from 1/4000 to 1/15 seconds long, five separate exposures were blended in the image to create a presentation similar to the breathtaking visual experience of the eclipse. Sagittarius Rising

Friday Tweet~ Our local meridian here in S.F. is aligned with the Galactic Center as the Sun enters Sagittarius on Nov. 21. Midheaven = 26.42 Sagittarius.
From California & San Francisco
************
>The Galactic Center
The widespread notion that the 2012 Winter Solstice Sun will align with the Galactic Center is somewhat misleading. But the Winter Solstice point has been roughly aligning with the Galactic Equator- the equator of the Milky Way galaxy, for decades now. According to master astronomer Jean Meeus the exact alignment occurred in May 1998. The Galactic Center is located at the center of the Milky Way, in the direction of the constellations Sagittarius, Ophiuchus, and Scorpius. It was believed and recently proven, that there's a supermassive black hole at the Galactic Center of our galaxy, on the order of 4 million solar masses.

One might think of the Galactic Center as the Sun around which our Sun orbits, and the probable source of most of the gravitational energy present in our galaxy. Two years after the discovery of Pluto in 1930, Karl Jansky, a Bell Telephone Laboratories engineer, found that a partial source of static affecting overseas telephone lines, came from the center of our Milky Way Galaxy at 26 degrees of Sagittarius. And then in the late 60's, astronomers finally honed in on the GC (Galactic Center) with radio and infrared instruments. They were amazed by the immense energies radiating from this source at many frequencies. According to Michael and Margaret Erlewine, energy emerges from the GC over 2 entire degrees of longitude near the last degrees of Sagittarius (See->Astrophysical Directions).

Because of the phenomena known as the precession of the equinoxes, caused by a subtle wobble in the earth's rotational axis, the Galactic Center, solstices, equinoxes, and fixed stars move forward about one degree of longitude every 72 years. Therefore, the Galactic Center is currently located at 27 degrees of Sagittarius (sign not constellation).

Moon Shadow Sequence

From Images 108
On the morning of November 14, the Moon's umbral shadow tracked across northern Australia before heading into the southern Pacific. Captured from a hilltop some 30 miles west of the outback town of Mount Carbine, Queensland, a series of exposures follows the progress of the total solar eclipse in this dramatic composite image. The sequence begins near the horizon. The Moon steadily encroaches on the reddened face of the Sun, rising as the eclipse progresses. At the total phase, lasting about 2 minutes for that location, an otherwise faint solar corona shimmers around the eclipsed disk. Recorded during totality, the background exposure shows a still sunlit sky near the horizon, just beyond a sky darkened by the shadow of the Moon. (APOD- Image Credit & Copyright: Ben Cooper)

Sri Yukteswar on Astrology

An excerpt from 'Autobiography of a Yogi'-

"Charlatans have brought the ancient stellar science of astrology to its present disrepute. Astrology is too vast, both mathematically and philosophically, to be rightly grasped except by men of profound understanding. If ignoramuses misread the heavens, and see there is a scrawl instead of a script, that is to be expected in this imperfect world. One should not dismiss the wisdom with the wise.

All parts of creation are linked together and interchange their influences. The balanced rhythm of the universe is rooted in reciprocity. Man, in his human aspect, has to combat two sets of forces- first, the tumults within his being, caused by the admixture of earth, water, fire, air and ethereal elements; second, the outer disintegrating powers of nature. So long as man struggles with his mortality, he is affected by the myriad mutations of heaven and earth.

Astrology is the study of man's response to planetary stimuli. The stars have no conscious benevolence or animosity; they merely send forth positive and negative radiation's. Of themselves, they do not help or harm humanity, but offer a lawful channel for the outward operation of cause-effect equilibriums that each man has set into motion in the past.

A child is born on that day and at that hour when the celestial rays are in mathematical harmony with his individual karma. His horoscope is a challenging portrait, revealing his unalterable past and its probable future results. The natal chart can be rightly interpreted only by men of intuitive wisdom: these are few.

The message boldly blazoned across the heavens at the moment of birth is not meant to emphasize fate- the result of past good or evil- but to arouse man's will to escape from his universal thralldom. What he has done, he can undo. None other than himself was the instigator of the causes of whatever effects are now prevalent in his life. He can overcome any limitation, because he created it by his own actions in the first place, and because he possesses spiritual resources that are not subject to planetary pressure.

Superstitious awe of astrology makes one an automaton, slavishly dependent on mechanical guidance. The wise man defeats his planets- which is to say, his past- by transferring his allegiance from the creation to the Creator. The more he realizes his unity with spirit, the less he can be dominated by matter. The soul is ever free; it is deathless because birthless. It cannot be regimented by stars.

Man is a soul, and has a body. When he properly places his sense of identity, he leaves behind all compulsive patterns. So long as he remains confused in his ordinary state of spiritual amnesia, he will know the subtle fetters of environmental law.

God is harmony, the devotee who attunes himself will never perform any action amiss. His activities will be correctly and naturally timed to accord with astrological law."

Light More Light! OM Times Magazine:
By Baba Shuddhaanandaa Brahmachari

Diwali 2012 is celebrated for 5 days beginning November 13th.

"In India, we celebrate an annual Festival called Diwali, which is the Celebration of Light. But most of those who celebrate this festival spend all their means to purchase lights to illuminate the world outside them. Fortunate are those who dive deep into the inner world to see the true Festival of Light within.

The lights of the outside world are man-made, hence, extinguishable. But the flame or the light of consciousness is self-effulgent and it is eternal. We don’t have to light it, but we have to move towards it to see that it is perpetually there, aglow.

The sages say, “Those who have seen that Light beyond all darkness, become the embodiment of the light of Wisdom, of transcendental bliss.” We are born of light; we are the light to light the darkness around.

Remembrance of this essence is the true celebration of Diwali, the celebration of light."

Neptune goes direct

The planet Neptune Neptune is stationary-direct today after about 5 months in retrograde motion. The general consensus on retrograde planets is that they tend to work on a more subtle and subjective level, as we review and go back over issues related to the planet and natal house where it's in apparent backward motion.

Neptune represents the urge/need to transcend the mundane and experience a deeper sense of unity and connection with the anima mundi (world soul)- to realize our dreams, visions, and highest aspirations. Negatively, Neptune relates to blurred boundaries, a lack of focus, illusion, delusion, deception, denial, confusion, and uncertainty- the desire to escape reality, and also addictive behavior.

Neptune is changing direction in tight square to the May 20 solar eclipse degree (0.21 Gemini)- so if that eclipse hit something in your personal horoscope, you may notice the current activation from Neptune (0.22 Pisces).

When any planet stations direct or retrograde, it's archetypal energy is amplified. And when an outer planet changes direction, it can takes weeks for it to get up to speed. But the forward motion suggests we can begin to move forward with the outward manifestation of our dreams and visions (Neptune).

With the Moon in pleasant Libra today (Sunday), things are likely to be socially pleasant and generally soft around the edges.

Novembers Eclipses and the Mayan Calendar

On further reflection, I think it may be useful to understand the two eclipses this month not only in relation to each other, but in relation to the end of the 5125 year Mayan Long Count calendar on Dec. 21, 2012(Winter Solstice). Context provides meaning that would otherwise be hard to discern.

The Nov. 13 eclipse (21.56 Scorpio) is a total solar eclipse and a SuperMoon (Moon at perigee) in the sign of Scorpio, known for it's emotional intensity. Generally speaking, a solar eclipse represents a major ending and new beginning, a reset of our evolutionary directive- especially as the eclipse conjoins the Moon's North Node or Dragon's Head. The Dragon's Head is a point of intake, and the Dragon's Tail one of outtake. And in this case, the Dragon's Tail/South Node is conjunct the eclipsing binary Algol Beta Persei, the Medusa's Head, that is considered the most evil, violent, and dangerous star in the heavens.(D.K.Rosenberg) "Algol is the wild, raw, and frightening face of the outraged feminine which has been labeled as demonic or evil. This star seems to contain immense female passion and power- the potential power of Mother Nature."(B.Brady) The accumulated karma (Dragon's Tail) of not honoring the awesome power of the goddess is part of our collective legacy, but a regressive, unhealthy tendency.

The solar eclipse with the Dragon's Head is forward looking and future oriented, but the Scorpio emphasis suggests the need to clear away the old, decayed elements in our lives and psyches, so we can start off with a clean slate. As Mars, ruler of Scorpio is now out of bounds (OOB) by declination (measured north or south of the celestial equator), we can act out this clearing process in a novel, innovative way, or in a wildly extreme manner. Transiting Mars in Sagittarius is the righteous warrior- or radical zealot.

Solar eclipses are extraordinary New Moons that birth a lunar cycle which reaches culmination at the Full Moon/Lunar Eclipse. The Nov. 13 Scorpio eclipse is deeply emotional-psychic, and the Nov. 28 Lunar Eclipse at 6.47 Gemini is cerebral in nature, as Gemini is mercurial, and this eclipse also conjoins Jupiter that aspires to knowledge. Moreover, benefic Jupiter signifies hope, optimism, and confidence. The Scorpio catharsis can set the stage for intellectual and spiritual epiphanies. Esoterically- Scorpio relates to the 3rd chakra located at the solar plexus, which pertains to our power center & power issues. While Gemini is linked to the 5th chakra or throat chakra- connected with the voice and communication.

If we see these eclipses against the backdrop of the once in 5125 year reset of Mayan calendar, they take on more profound meaning. The end of this calendar is not the end of the world, but is definitely related to a turning of the ages. The Mayan Long Count calendar is divided into bak'tuns, or 144,000-day cycles that begin at the Maya creation date (3113 BC). The Dec. 21, 2012 Winter Solstice is the last day of the 13th bak'tun, marking what the Maya people would have seen as a full cycle of creation.

Astronomically, the 'Galactic Alignment' is the alignment of the Winter Solstice Sun with the Galactic Equator, or plane of our Milky Way galaxy. This alignment occurs as a result of the 26,000 year precession of the equinoxes, caused by the earth wobbling slowly on its axis which shifts the equinoxes, solstices, and stars one degree forward every 72 years. Because the Sun is one-half of a degree wide, it takes the Winter Solstice Sun 36 years to precess through the Galactic Equator. The precise Galactic Alignment occurred in May 1998 according to master astronomer Jean Meeus.(Mathematical Astronomy Morsels, 1997) And in a previous post here, it was noted that the May 11, 1998 Scorpio Full Moon was most sharply focused in Japan.

The Maya long count system is like an odometer- and although the Maya did make prophecies, it was not in a fatalistic sense, but rather about events that, in their cyclical conception of historical time, could be repeated in the future. One does not need to know much about the Mayan calendar or astrology to see that humankind is coming to a cross-roads, and if we are to survive and prosper, we need to learn to live in harmony with each other and the Earth that sustains us. The possibility of a paradigm shift is also clear to anyone aware of the game-changing Uranus-Pluto square in effect for another 3-5 years. These planets were last square in the early 1930's, but the current square marks the first crisis-phase of the cycle that began with the conjunctions of 1965-66 (at 16-17 Virgo). However, the synchronous start of a new epochal 5125 year calendar cycle seems even more numinous now, and the eclipses this month are celestial portents. Perhaps the Great Conjunction of Jupiter & Saturn in the sign of the Water Bearer on the 2020 Winter Solstice heralds the true birth of the altruistic Aquarian Age.

Eclipses and World Events

Tension Erupts in Greece
"Athens erupted in riots late Wednesday as parliament met to vote on the latest austerity measures needed to win more international aid.

Smoke and tear gas filled the streets just as parliament struggled to forge a consensus on the new austerity plans. Meanwhile, workers were winding down a two-day strike to protest the budget-cutting moves designed to reduce Greece's crushing public debt burden."

The Nov. 13 solar eclipse (21.56 Scorpio) is a dramatic portent of general hardship in Greece, as it falls on the root chakra, or foundational 4th house cusp at Athens. According to H.S.Green's Mundane Astrology, Eclipses in the 4th House are, "Unfortunate for the Monarch and the Government and for the success and welfare of the nation; the people will suffer in some way signified by the sign or the planets afflicting; ill feeling between the people and the upper classes; some great or well-known person may die or suffer downfall or discredit; unfavorable for the crops, for agriculture, and for land, mines, house property. Solar eclipses are worse then lunar here." (page 102)

Deadly Quake Rocks Guatemala
"A strong earthquake off the coast of Guatemala shook buildings in the capital and killed at least 39 people on Wednesday(Nov.7), trapping others under rubble and triggering evacuations as far away as Mexico City.

The 7.4 magnitude quake hit at 10:35 a.m. local time (11:35 EDT). It was the strongest earthquake to hit Guatemala since a 7.5 magnitude quake in 1976 that claimed more than 20,000 lives." (Reuters)

In this case, the chart for the previous solar eclipse of May 20 (0.21 Gemini) is being powerfully activated by the Nov. 13 total solar eclipse. The May 20 solar eclipse Midheaven in Champerico, Guatemala is 21.28 Leo and the Ascendant 21.29 Scorpio. The Nov. 13 total solar eclipse (21.56 Scorpio) is exactly conjunct the May eclipse Ascendant (21.29 Scorpio) and square it's Midheaven (21.28 Leo). More dramatic activation of an eclipse chart would be hard to find.

The epic earthquake near Los Amates, Guatemala on Feb. 4, 1976 claimed more than 20,000 lives. And this tragic event was foreshadowed by the Nov. 18, 1975 total lunar eclipse at 26 Taurus- conjunct the malefic star Algol. In the eclipse chart, Saturn is right on the IC-4th house cusp and square Uranus. This aspect suggests sudden disruptions to established local structures.

The fateful North Node of the 1975 lunar eclipse and the Nov. 13, 2012 solar eclipse are tightly conjunct at 21-22 Scorpio. So perhaps this particular degree has special significance for Guatemala, either through its national chart, or other historical events that have imprinted their energy at that zodiacal degree (21-22 Scorpio).
From Mundane Charts 2
Transiting Mars is tightly conjunct the 1976 Los Amates earthquake Ascendant- so we have another fascinating linkage between the 1976 and 2012 earthquakes.

Nov. 13 Total Solar Eclipse @ 21.56 Scorpio
The upcoming total solar eclipse of Nov. 13 (21.56 Scorpio) appears to have deeper geo-political significance because it opposes the Jupiter-Saturn conjunction (22.43 Taurus) of May 2000. This 20 year cycle has long been associated with the natural ebb and flow of economies and civilizations. And we move out of the primarily materialistic era marked by these Jupiter-0-Saturn in the earth element on Dec. 21, 2020, with the first of series of conjunctions in air signs.
From United States
But in the meantime, the US is playing a leading role in the current cycle of the Great Chronocrators- rulers of time, as the May 28, 2000 Jupiter-Saturn conjunction fell right on the Midheaven in the capital (D.C.). And therefore, the Nov. 13 solar eclipse opposing 22.43 Taurus may have special significance for the US in particular- perhaps related to the so-called 'fiscal cliff'. President Obama's re-election would seem to linked to this eclipse activation. But I'm not anticipating epic financial or geo-political events here until 2014- so more about that in another post.

Australian Sex Scandals & the Nov. 13 Solar Eclipse:

Prime minister announces national inquiry into Catholic church's responses to scandals involving paedophile priests.

"Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard has announced a national inquiry into the Catholic church's responses to child sex abuse after a series of scandals involving paedophile priests.

Gillard made the announcement on Monday in the wake of claims by a senior policeman that a Catholic Church in the Hunter Valley in New South Wales destroyed evidence and silenced investigations.

"There have been too many revelations of adults who have averted their eyes from this evil," Gillard said. "I believe in these circumstances that it is appropriate for there to be a national response through a royal commission."

Gillard had been under growing pressure to establish a national inquiry after the recent allegations but she said the probe would be broader than just the Catholic Church.

"This is not a royal commission targeting any one church," Gillard said.

Calls for a national inquiry intensified in September when the Catholic Church in Victoria revealed that at least 620 children had been abused by clergy in that state since the 1930s." Read More

Mentioned here when this sex scandal broke back in Sept., is Pluto rising in Melbourne, Victoria, at the Scorpio solar eclipse on Nov. 13/14, 2012. Pluto is the co-ruler of Scorpio, and pertains to uncovering things that have been hidden and suppressed. Scorpio has an affinity with sexual matters, while Pluto relates to the use or abuse of power.

According to the above article, the sexual abuse of children by Catholic Church of Victoria clergy has been going on since the 1930's. The planet Pluto was discovered in 1930, and the last time Uranus (awakenings-revolutions) and Pluto were in square was the early 1930's.

Melbourne is the only place in the world that dark Pluto is rising at the Scorpio solar eclipse.
From Asia & Mideast
"The eclipse's partial phases will be visible from all of Australia, New Guinea and New Zealand, as well as part of Antarctica and a far-southern slice of South America. The total solar eclipse, however, can only be seen only from a narrow corridor running southeast across Queensland and the Northern Territory in Australia." ~SPACE.com

The Big Dipper in November Skies

To the Micmac Indians living in southeast Canada, a Celestial Bear – our same familiar Big Dipper pattern – coming down to Earth signaled the start of hibernation season.

Of course, the Sun is in the sign of Scorpio for the first 3 weeks of November every year. But the total solar eclipse @ 22 Scorpio on Nov. 13 is intensifying the archetypal themes of harvest, purging, and clearing away the dead wood- in preparation for a new cycle of growth. This cathartic purging process is not only occurring in the natural world, but on a deeper emotional or psycho-spiritual level of consciousness as well.

Two prominent meteor showers to light up night sky starting Monday

By Paul Rogers

"Election season is winding down, and the World Series is over.

Searching for some new evening entertainment? Look up.

Starting Monday and continuing for the next two weeks, two prominent meteor showers will be lighting up the night sky with flashes of fireballs and shooting stars.

The first, the Taurid meteors -- sometimes called the "Halloween Fireballs" -- appear every fall between mid-October and early December. Astronomers say that because of the peak of activity and the brightness of the moon, the seven days between Monday and Nov. 12 should make for the best viewing this year.

The second, the Leonid meteors, are expected to be best viewed around Nov. 17, although they will be active all month.

If conditions are right, the Taurids should produce about five visible shooting stars per hour, and the Leonids 15 or more, although the Taurids can be slower-moving and brighter.

Stargazers say the best viewing is well after midnight in remote areas, away from the light pollution of cities."

Hunter's Moon over the Alps

From Images 108
A Full Moonset can be a dramatic celestial sight, and Full Moons can have many names. Late October's Full Moon, the second Full Moon after the northern hemisphere autumnal equinox, has been traditionally called the Hunter's Moon. According to lore, the name is a fitting one because this Full Moon lights the night during a time for hunting in preparation for the coming winter months. In this scene, last week's Hunter's Moon shines with a rich yellow light, setting as dawn comes to the Italian Alps. Topping out at over 11,000 feet, the snowy peak known as Rochemelon glows, just catching the first reddened light of the rising Sun. (APOD ~Stefano De Rosa photo)

Saros Series 128 and Sandy

Continuing on with our post-event exploration of the 2012 eclipses and Sandy, we can go even deeper by looking at Saros 128- the 1298 years series that the May 20, 2012 solar eclipse belongs to. The first/parent eclipse of Saros 128 occurred on Aug. 29, 984 at 10 Virgo 59. Theoretically, this lunation sets the tone for the rest in the same series.

A quick review of previous observations:
The May 20, 2012 solar eclipse chart for NYC has the location-specific Ascendant at 26 Scorpio, and the transiting North Node of the Moon (manifest destiny) is now at 26 Scorpio. Neptune stationing in square to the 0.21 Gemini eclipse degree on Nov. 11, 2012, is a trigger for the activation of latent power of the eclipse.

If we set up a tri-wheel with the Saros 128 parent eclipse; the May 20, 2012 eclipse; and the Full Moon of Oct. 29, 2012, we find some amazing connections that show the potential viability of the Saros for mundane forecasting.

Firstly, note the May 20 solar eclipse Midheaven(10.15 Virgo)-0-Mars(10.38 Virgo) in NYC is conjunct the Saros 128 parent eclipse degree(10Virgo59)! This is a remarkable 'hit' and only possible near 74 west longitude. Furthermore, the Aug. 29, 984 eclipse Midheaven in NYC = 6.58 Taurus = Oct. 29, 2012 Full Moon at 6.47 Taurus. In other words, the Full Moon that peaked as Sandy made landfall was tightly aligned with the Midheaven of the Aug. 29, 984 eclipse that birthed Saros 128. This is another remarkable 'location-specific' contact.

In general a solar eclipse will tend to cast a shadow in the house with Sun-ruled Leo on the cusp, and the parent eclipse of Saros 128 has a Leo Ascendant in the US Northeast- afflicting this geographic region in particular.

Rigel and the Witch Head Nebula

From Images 108
Double, double toil and trouble; Fire burn, and cauldron bubble -- maybe Macbeth should have consulted the Witch Head Nebula. The suggestively shaped reflection nebula is associated with the bright star Rigel in the constellation Orion. More formally known as IC 2118, the Witch Head Nebula spans about 50 light-years and is composed of interstellar dust grains reflecting Rigel's starlight. In this cosmic portrait, the blue color of the Witch Head Nebula and of the dust surrounding Rigel is caused not only by Rigel's intense blue starlight but because the dust grains scatter blue light more efficiently than red. The same physical process causes Earth's daytime sky to appear blue, although the scatterers in Earth's atmosphere are molecules of nitrogen and oxygen. Rigel, the Witch Head Nebula, and gas and dust that surrounds them lie about 800 light-years away. (APOD- Image Credit: Rogelio Bernal Andreo)

The May 20, 2012 Solar Eclipse and Sandy

A reader asked me if I thought the May 20, 2012 solar eclipse at 0 Gemini was linked with hurricane/super-storm Sandy. So here is the chart for that eclipse set in New York City, with the Oct. 29 Full Moon on the outside wheel. The eclipse has a tight Mars-Chiron opposition on the MC-IC axis, which can signify injuries incurred through violent or 'accidental' means- as mythic Chiron suffered an accidental wound.

The solar eclipse Ascendant at 26 Scorpio is being been transited by the fateful Nodes of the Moon- eclipse points in themselves, and indicators of manifest destiny. Neptune is square the sensitive eclipse degree now, and will station-direct exactly -90- the May 20 eclipse on Nov. 11. So this eclipse and current asctivation is part of the confluence of astrological factors relevant to Sandy's destructive path through the US Northeast.

Heads Up! The Writer's Astrological Almanac

by Kathy Watts - November 2012

Welcome to November, in an autumn when even the weather has been
intense and weird. We have a great beginning, with Nov 1 being on
Thursday (Jupiter's day of the week) and the Moon in
writer/artist-friendly Gemini. Venus exactly opposes Uranus today.
Don't let this turn you off from the experimental and unconventionally
creative (is that redundant?) this month. Let it enhance your
sensitivity to the new and fresh. Find the charm in what's radical,
without getting swept away. The Moon also conjuncts Jupiter today.
This can raise emotions and personal expectations, too. Make this a
happy, productive day and take it forward with you all month long.

Fri Nov 02 the Moon is in Gemini all day, but void of course for all
but the first few hours. You can accomplish a lot today anyway. Be
sociable.

Mon Nov 05 gets a Heads Up. Tomorrow is the start of this year's last
Mercury retrograde period. Mercury is already slowed down to almost
nothing, preparing to station. Be methodical and think ahead. Put
things away where they won't get lost or broken. Put your notes in
order, maybe in a bound notebook. Charge the phone battery, be good to
your computer. You know the drill. Don't be afraid, but heads up.

Tue Nov 06 the Moon is in Leo when Mercury stations at 04 Sag. This is
a fair dose of fire to get us through the retrograde period, if we
don't get lured into impatience or spontaneous disorganization. Heads
Up. In the U.S., it's Election Day. If this applies to you, I say
VOTE.

Wed Nov 07 the Moon is void of course in Leo most of the day, moving
into Virgo in the evening. Work with enthusiasm and childish good
cheer, and be happy about it when the day is over, no matter how
things have gone. Have a pleasant if low-key night.

Sat Nov 10 the Moon moves into amenable Libra shortly after day's
start. Enjoy people today. They're all potential characters in some
story, and they are all protagonists in the stories that are their own
lives. Before days end, Neptune goes stationary direct. It may become
slightly easier to express your art, operative word 'slightly.'

Sun Nov 11 the Moon conjuncts Venus in Libra. Think charm, charming,
and a pleasant social weekend.

Mon Nov 12 the Moon conjuncts Saturn in Scorpio. Respect boundaries
and deadlines. It's also the day before the New Moon. Heads Up.

Tue Nov 13 we have the New Moon at 21 Scorpio. Be grateful for what
keeps you honest, and start something with depth. It's the Kali Puja.
Maybe you'd like to start something with a touch of darkness, too. How
much more Heads Up do you want? But wait, there's more. It's also a
solar eclipse. Heads Up. The outside world may seem a bit rockier than
usual, but don't let that perturb your inside world work. This is
giving us two very heavy Tuesdays in a row. (And remember, Tuesday is
the day of the week belonging to Mars.) Before end of day, Mercury
retrogrades out of Sagittarius and reenters Scorpio. More Scorpio!
Thoughts may return to old problems or grievances. (Did someone ask
for plot complication ideas? Well, here you are.) Heads Up.

Wed Nov 14 the Moon conjuncts Mercury retrograde at 29 Sco. Heads Up.
This is intense if internal, and a writer/artist can do something
fantastic with it. You may not want to instantly run out and show it
to everyone (well, you might want to, but you also might know better.)
Despite all of today's intensity, the Moon moves into mutable
Sagittarius twenty minutes after that Mercury conjunction. The
Wednesdays this month are finally settling down into having Moons in
mutable signs. You don't have to let all this intensity and mutability
drive you into feeling squirrely. Drink tea and write.

Fri Nov 16 the Moon conjuncts Mars in Sagittarius then goes void of
course for almost an hour before entering Capricorn. Here's a
short-lived burst of fire to liven up your weekend. The Moon next
conjuncts Pluto in early Capricorn. Do something constructive today.
Three hours later, Mars bids farewell to Sagittarius and joins Pluto
in Capricorn. Even Mars can have a serious side. Can you sense a
Mars-Pluto conjunction in our near future? Why wait. Let's say Heads
Up now.

Sat Nov 17 the Moon is in Capricorn when the Sun conjuncts Mercury
retrograde in late Scorpio. Can you sense the Sun preparing to shift
signs? The last few degrees of any sign can be extra powerful,
especially with the Sun present.

Tue Nov 20 the Moon conjuncts Neptune at 00 Pis. It's also the last
day of having the Sun in Scorpio. You could learn some really useful
(if not pain-free) lesson with this. Heads Up. If you need intensity
to resolve something, you still have it today. It's not a bad day for
celebrate with a private work bash. Tomorrow the world will feel
radically looser and brighter. It may not be any calmer or quieter,
though.

Wed Nov 21 the Moon will be in Pisces when the Sun changes signs,
leaving Mars-ruled Scorpio (or if you prefer, Pluto-ruled Scorpio) and
moves into the Jupiter-ruled sign of Sagittarius. Heads Up. Expect
space and time to expand around you. Both Sagittarius and Pisces are
mutable signs, so expect people and interruptions (even if they're
pleasant ones). Midday, Venus also changes signs, leaving her homesign
of Libra and moving into, yes, Scorpio. There is no escape, is there?
But why would a writer want an escape from intensity?

Thu Nov 22 the Moon is void of course in Pisces when Venus trines
Neptune in the very early morning. It's Thanksgiving Day in the US,
and though not totally writerly, it is totally social and often
family-oriented and thus the stuff of great future stories. Be
grateful for everyone in your life. They give you so much, whether
they intend to or not.

Fri Nov 23 the Moon conjuncts Uranus in Aries. This can add extra fire
to an already creative situation. Keep things under control, though.

Mon Nov 26 the Moon is in Taurus when Mercury stations at 18 Sco and
prepares to move direct again. Heads Up. A fair bit of serious thought
can be given to some serious subjects, if you're not lazy or timid.
Two and a half hours later, Venus conjuncts Saturn in Scorpio. You can
do something good with this. Yes, you can.

Tue Nov 27 the Moon is void of course in Taurus when Mars exactly
conjuncts Pluto in Capricorn. Heads Up. This conjunction happens about
every two years. You can do something great with this. Really. First,
it's a Mars day of the week. Second, there's a ton of earth energy and
it's easy and desirable to be practical. What is it with Tuesday this
month, that they've been so heavy? On the up side, the Moon enters
the sign of Gemini later in the day. Stay calm and together, and pour
this energy into your work.

Wed Nov 28 is the Full Moon at 06 Gem. Heads Up. It's a writer's full
moon. On a Wednesday. Heads Up in the happiest of ways. Plus, it's a
lunar eclipse. If ever there was a time to look into the shadows of
the heart and mind (and come out with something brilliant to share),
this might be it. We also are given the Moon-Jupiter conjunction later
in the day. Think lucky. Plus, the Sun is now in Sagittarius. Be happy
in your work. Be happy every minute. Share it through your work.

Thu Nov 29 the Moon is void of course in Gemini all day. Write, write,
write. At least read, read, read. The Moon won't enter Cancer until
early morning tomorrow.

In a lot of ways, this is one hairy month. A zillion complicated
aspects come and go between all the planets, resolving somewhat by the
beginning of December. We also get slammed with a few powerful
conjunctions...especially Venus-Saturn and Mars-Pluto. How could we
forget the Mercury retrograde? Well, we can't. Oh, and a solar and a
lunar eclipse. All this in one little 30-day month.

Don't let the intensity intimidate you. You are alive, creative,
stimulated, motivated, and pretty darn intense by nature yourself.
Every writer and artist has an intense side. This month, you may as
well own it. Look out, World! Here you are! Heads Up!
