Timing Critical For New Business Ventures, IPOs

By Edward Snow @ ANS Astrology New Service

Astrologers Say Facebook’s Initial Public Stock Trade Well on the Way to Becoming a Classic Example of How Not to Take Private Companies Public

"With about five of every 10 new startup businesses ending on the scrap heap within five years it’s probably safe to assume that business failures happen for many different reasons.

But it’s not uncommon to hear those who fail say timing errors were largely to blame.

Financial astrologer Bill Meridian consistently ranks among the leading stock market timers in the country. He thinks the kinds of timing errors that often befall startup businesses – or occur when owners take private companies public – can usually be avoided.

Meridian has advised companies on incorporation dates, initial public offerings (IPOs) and other strategic timing issues. The founder of Cycles Research Ltd. has been forecasting markets with cycles for 40 years and is the author of Planetary Stock Trading, Planetary Economic Forecasting and The Predictive Power of Eclipse Paths.

It matters greatly how the planets, sun and moon are aligned at the time a business makes a critical corporate move. In the West, the number of businesses making this discovery appears to be growing dramatically in recent decades, he noted.

Meridian says timing errors made by businesses are relatively easy to spot. For example, astrologers were quick to point out where Facebook went so badly wrong when offering its shares to the public for the first time.

Facebook made its initial public stock offering on May 18. Three months later the shares were selling at half their original value.

According to Meridian, the company ignored the most obvious cyclical pattern in the heavens, the lunar cycle, and chose to bring the company public two days before a major solar eclipse. This was a major mistake.

“Events immediately before and after a solar eclipse are important. But events before an eclipse take on the added attribute of being unpredictable and fated.

“In the period prior to an eclipse we are in a shadow, not seeing the complete situation. If one is forced to make a decision or to take action prior to an eclipse, significant alterations in plans will be needed to reach the original objective,” he said.

It’s best to postpone a major corporate decision until the week following a major eclipse, he explained.

There were other problems for the social media behemoth. Astrologer Grace K. Morris says the chart set up for the exact time of the first trade indicates very difficult business challenges, most particularly in the area of financial accounting.

Morris writes the Astro Economics Stock Market Newsletter. The first trade chart for the Facebook IPO indicates the possibility of deceptive practices or at least confusion and misunderstanding, she says.

“There are indications the stock can still be a success but the company will need to work hard to overcome the unfortunate perceptions the public has as a result of its first public trade.

“The problem could have been avoided by picking a better time,” she said."

The next Blue Moon is August 31, 2012

According to modern folklore, a Blue Moon is the second full moon of a calendar month. Learn how this name came to be, in this post.

"August 2012 is a month with two full moons. And, by popular acclaim, that means it’s a Blue Moon month – but it’s Blue in name only. That’s because a Blue Moon is sometimes defined as the second full moon in a calendar month. The first full moon is August 1. The second full moon is August 31, 2012."

Luna and Venus

From Images 108
Rising in the dark hours before dawn, wandering Venus now shines as the brilliant morning star. Its close conjunction with the Moon on August 13 was appreciated around planet Earth. But skygazers in eastern Asia were also treated to a lunar occultation, the waning crescent Moon passing directly in front of the bright planet in still dark skies. This composite image constructed from frames made at 10 minute intervals follows the celestial performance (vimeo video) ar from above the city lights and clouds over Taebaek, Korea. The occultation begins near the horizon and progresses as the pair rises. Venus first disappears behind the Moon's sunlit crescent, emerging before dawn from the dark lunar limb. (APOD)

Mars, Saturn, and Spica

From Images 108
During the past week, nightfall on planet Earth has featured Mars, Saturn, and Spica in a lovely conjunction near the western horizon. Still forming the corners of a distinctive celestial triangle after sunset and recently joined by a crescent Moon, they are all about the same brightness but can exhibit different colors to the discerning eye. This ingenious star trail image was recorded as the trio set on August 12 with a telephoto lens from the shores of Lake Eppalock, in central Victoria, Australia. Focused on foreground eucalyptus trees, the image slightly blurs the trails to show more saturated colors. Can you guess which trail is which? Of course the reddest trail is Mars, with Saturn on the right a paler echo of the Red Planet's hue. Left is hot and luminous Spica, bluish alpha star of the constellation Virgo. Solar Filament

From Images 108
Is that a cloud hovering over the Sun? Yes, but it is quite different than a cloud hovering over the Earth. The long light feature on the left of the above color-inverted image is actually a solar filament and is composed of mostly charged hydrogen gas held aloft by the Sun's looping magnetic field. By contrast, clouds over the Earth are usually much cooler, composed mostly of tiny water droplets, and are held aloft by upward air motions because they are weigh so little. The above filament was captured on the Sun about two weeks ago near the active solar region AR 1535 visible on the right with dark sunspots. Filaments typically last for a few days to a week, but a long filament like this might hover over the Sun's surface for a month or more. Some filaments trigger large Hyder flares if they suddenly collapse back onto the Sun. (APOD)

West Nile Virus Outbreak in Dallas, Texas

"The city of Dallas in the US state of Texas has declared a state of emergency as it struggles to contain an outbreak of mosquito-borne West Nile virus.

At least 14 people have died after contracting the virus in the state so far this year.

Almost 700 cases have been reported across the country - the highest number since 2004.

Texas residents have been urged to use insect repellent and avoid going out at dusk and dawn.

"The city of Dallas is experiencing a widespread outbreak of mosquito-borne West Nile Virus that has caused and appears likely to continue to cause widespread and severe illness and loss of life," Michael Rawlings said.

The move clears the way for aerial spraying to kill infected mosquitoes that transmit the disease."
BBC News

The 2012 Aries ingress (Vernal Equinox) sets the tone for the entire year, and the mutable grand cross between the Moon-Neptune-Chiron in Pisces, the Nodes and Mars is angular (powerful) at Dallas. Both the stagnant water in which insects breed and the deadly virus they carry are signified by these planets in Pisces- while the -180- from Mars shows harmful attacks. The Aug. 31 Pisces Full Moon triggering the Aries ingress suggests a climatic period regarding the West Nile outbreak in Texas- if it hasn't been sorted out by then.

Deadly Earthquakes Strike Iran

From BBC News:
"Two strong earthquakes have struck north-western Iran, leaving at least 87 people dead and 400 more injured, according to state TV.

The quakes struck near the city of Tabriz and the town of Ahar, but most of the casualties are thought to be in outlying villages.

Reports say phone lines to many villages have been cut off, making rescue efforts harder.

The US Geological Service measured the quakes at magnitude 6.4 and 6.3.

"The quake has created huge panic among the people," one resident of Tabriz told the BBC. "Everyone has rushed to the streets and the sirens of ambulances are everywhere."

The towns of Haris and Varzaqab in East Azerbaijan province were among those that suffered casualties, Khalil Saei, local crisis committee chief, told state TV, according to the Associated Press.

Officials say at least four villages have been completely destroyed, with another 60 villages suffering damage ranging from 50% to 70%.

The two earthquakes came within minutes of each other, according to seismology experts at Tehran University.

Dozens of rescue workers have been sent to the region, but the onset of darkness has hampered relief efforts."

Once again we find the epic Uranus-Pluto square on the event angles, and thus dramatically focused in the horoscope of a disaster. Pluto- massive change and upheaval was rising, and square Uranus- sudden upsets or disruptions, etc. But also of significance, is the harsh Mars-Saturn conjunction (exact Aug. 15) near the event Midheaven- as Mars rules the 4th house of earthquakes.

An AstroCartoGraphy map for the first earthquake shows a confluence of planetary lines over Iran. These lines move from right to left as the earth rotates from east to west.

The Perseid Meteor Shower

The Perseid meteor shower -- that annual summertime favorite -- is back this weekend. And it's expected to be spectacular.

The stars have aligned, so to speak, to enhance viewing Friday night and Saturday night when the Perseid meteor shower will be at its finest. The shower, which lasts from Aug. 10 through Aug. 13, is widely considered to be the best of the year, says the astronomy website EarthSky.

One tip: Try not to blink. "The Perseids are typically fast and bright meteors," EarthSky says.
More=> Los Angeles Times

************

The Perseids have been observed for at least 2,000 years and are associated with the comet Swift-Tuttle, which orbits the sun once every 133 years. Each year in August, the Earth passes through a cloud of the comet's debris. These bits of ice and dust -- most over 1,000 years old -- burn up in the Earth's atmosphere to create one of the best meteor showers of the year. The Perseids can be seen all over the sky, but the best viewing opportunities will be across the northern hemisphere. Those with sharp eyes will see that the meteors radiate from the direction of the constellation Perseus.

Mars in the Loop

From Images 108
This composite of images spaced some 5 to 7 days apart from late October 2011 through early July 2012, traces the retrograde motion of ruddy-colored Mars through planet Earth's night sky. But Mars didn't actually reverse the direction of its orbit. Instead, the apparent backwards motion with respect to the background stars is a reflection of the motion of the Earth itself. Retrograde motion can be seen each time Earth overtakes and laps planets orbiting farther from the Sun, the Earth moving more rapidly through its own relatively close-in orbit. On March 4th, 2012 Mars was opposite the Sun in Earth's sky, near its closest and brightest at the center of this picture. Just arrived on the surface of the Red Planet, the Curiosity rover was launched on November 26, when Mars was near the crossover point of its retrograde loop. Of course, Mars can now be spotted close to Saturn and bright star Spica, near the western horizon after sunset. (APOD)

Mars-Saturn Conjunction 2012

Mars conjoins Saturn at 24 Libra on Aug. 15, 2012. The previous conjunction of these planets occurred July 31, 2012 at 0.49 Libra, and the next conjunction is Aug. 25, 2014 at 17.40 Scorpio.

A conjunction of the two traditional malefics is often interpreted as 'trying to drive a car with the brakes on'. Mars conjunct Saturn also indicates the ability to focus action constructively with discipline and restraint. Negatively, hard aspects between these planets suggest delays and frustration- blocked energy that can lead to anger boiling over.

The Aug. 15 Mars-0-Saturn rising @ London, UK, appears related to the highly focused energy and willpower of the athletes competing in the Olympic games.
From Mundane Charts 2
Natally, note the house where Libra falls, and the houses ruled by Mars (with Aries and Scorpio on the cusp) for clues as to where this Mars-Saturn energy is likely to find expression.

The Bubble Nebula

From Images 108
Blown by the wind from a massive star, this interstellar apparition has a surprisingly familiar shape. Cataloged as NGC 7635, it is also known simply as The Bubble Nebula. Although it looks delicate, the 10 light-year diameter bubble offers evidence of violent processes at work. Above and right of the Bubble's center is a hot, O star, several hundred thousand times more luminous and around 45 times more massive than the Sun. A fierce stellar wind and intense radiation from that star has blasted out the structure of glowing gas against denser material in a surrounding molecular cloud. The intriguing Bubble Nebula lies a mere 11,000 light-years away toward the boastful constellation Cassiopeia. This view of the cosmic bubble is composed of narrowband and broadband image data, capturing details in the emission region while recording a natural looking field of stars. (APOD)

Neptune and the Moon's Nodes

Neptune is powerfully placed now at the North Bending of the Lunar Nodes, which increases it's general influence to manifest dreams, visions, imagination, creative inspiration, and devotion in the material world- whatever form that might take.
From California & San Francisco
Waxing philosophically, we might surmise that the dynamic contact between Neptune and the Nodes indicates a pivotal turning point in our collective spiritual destiny- even though the exact alignment is fleeting.

The partile trine from a virtually stationary Mercury (2 Leo) to Rahu (N.Node), seems to be a supportive factor in bringing like-minded people together.

India and Mercury Retrograde

Earlier this week a massive power breakdown left hundreds of millions of people without electricity in northern and eastern India after three grids collapsed. Hundreds of trains came to a standstill and hospitals were running on backup generators.

The trickster side of Mercury is strongest when it's stationary retrograde, which it was on July 15, 2012 at 2:17 am, GMT. If we cast a mundane chart for this crucial minute, we find Mercury conjunct the Ascendant in New Delhi by declination. This contact is known as a parallel and is similar to a normal conjunction by zodiacal longitude. So from this chart alone we can see that disruptions and delays linked to retrograde Mercury would somehow plague India during the 3 week retro-phase. The collapse of the power grids and subsequent transportation chaos are clearly related to Mercury playing it's role as trickster.
From Asia & Mideast
When Mercury was stationary-retrograde it's declination (measured from the equator) was 14 North 05, and the Ascendant in New Delhi was 14 North 37.

South Pole Star Trails

From Images 108
No star dips below the horizon and the Sun never climbs above it in this remarkable image of 24 hour long star trails. Showing all the trails as complete circles, such an image could be achieved only from two places on planet Earth. This example was recorded during the course of May 1, 2012, the digital camera in a heated box on the roof of MAPO, the Martin A. Pomerantz Observatory at the South Pole. Directly overhead in the faint constellation Octans is the projection of Earth's rotational axis, the South Celestial Pole, at the center of all the star trail circles. Not so well placed as Polaris and the North Celestial Pole, the star leaving the small but still relatively bright circle around the South Celestial Pole is Beta Hydri. The inverted umbrella structure on the horizon at the right of the allsky field of view is the ground shield for the SPUD telescope. A shimmering apparition of the aurora australis also visited on this 24 hour night. (APOD)

August 2

Virgen de los Angeles Day is a Costa Rican holiday celebrating Costa Rica's patron saint, the Virgen de los Angeles, also known as La Negrita.

La Negrita, the Black Virgin, is a small (less than a meter tall), probably indigenous, representation of the Virgin Mary, found on this spot on August 2, 1635 by a native woman. As the story goes, when she tried to take the statuette with her, it miraculously reappeared back where she’d found it. Twice. So the townspeople built a shrine around her. In 1824, she was declared Costa Rica’s patron Virgin. She now resides on a gold, jewel-studded platform at the main altar in the Nuestra Señora de los Angeles Basilica in Cartago. Each August 2, on the anniversary of the statuette’s miraculous discovery, pilgrims from every corner of the country (and beyond) walk the 22km from San José to the basilica. Many of the penitent complete the last few hundred meters of the pilgrimage on their knees. This basilica is equally visited by tourists and locals. ~Wikipedia

Only at Monument Valley USA would you see a picturesque foreground that includes these iconic rock peaks called buttes. Buttes are composed of hard rock left behind after water has eroded away the surrounding soft rock. In the above image taken about two months ago, the closest butte on the left and the butte to its right are known as the Mittens, while Merrick Butte can be seen just further to the right. High overhead stretches a band of diffuse light that is the central disk of our spiral Milky Way Galaxy. Ancient Road Unearthed in Greece

This archaeological discovery was announced as Saturn was stationary-direct on June 25, 2012. (It had been retrograde since Feb. 7, 2012.) Astrological Saturn relates to things that are ancient, and have historical significance- also things made of stone.

(Associated Press)- "Archaeologists in Greece's second-largest city have uncovered a 70-meter (230-foot) section of an ancient road built by the Romans that was the city's main travel artery nearly 2,000 years ago.

The marble-paved road was unearthed during excavations for Thessaloniki's new subway system, which is due to be completed in four years. The road in the northern port city will be raised to be put on permanent display when the metro opens in 2016.

The excavation site was shown to the public on Monday, when details of the permanent display project were also announced. Several of the large marble paving stones were etched with children's board games, while others were marked by horse-drawn cart wheels.

Also discovered at the site were remains of tools and lamps, as well as the bases of marble columns.

Viki Tzanakouli, an archaeologist working on the project, told The Associated Press the Roman road was about 1,800 years old, while remains of an older road built by the ancient Greeks 500 years earlier were found underneath it.

"We have found roads on top of each other, revealing the city's history over the centuries," Tzanakouli said. "The ancient road, and side roads perpendicular to it appear to closely follow modern roads in the city today."

About 7 meters (23 feet) below ground in the center of the city, the ancient road follows in roughly the same direction as the city's modern Egnatia Avenue.

The subway works, started in 2006, present a rare opportunity for archaeologists to explore under the densely populated city — but have also caused years of delays for the project.

In 2008, workers on the Thessaloniki metro discovered more than 1,000 graves, some filled with treasure. The graves were of different shapes and sizes, and some contained jewelry, coins or other pieces of art.

A massive excavation project also took place during the 1990s in the capital, Athens, before the city's new metro system opened in 2000.

Thessaloniki's new subway is already four years behind schedule, due to the excavation work as well as Greece's financial crisis. Thirteen stations will operate initially, before a 10-station extension is added later." YAHOO!NEWS

Heads Up! The Writer's Astrological Almanac

By Kathy Watts ~ August 2012

Here we go into the sunny month of August, most of which has the Sun at home in the sign of Leo the Lion. Shine on! We also start the month with a Full Moon in Aquarius. It's hard to get bigger and brighter than this!

Wed Aug 01 we have the Full Moon at 10Aq. Let your mind expand and illuminate every corner of your work. We are looking at a month of Wednesdays with the Moon in fixed signs. Buckle down and don't let any of those little distractions pull you off track. Have a strongly focussed month and get done exactly what makes you feel good to work on most.

Fri Aug 03 the Moon conjuncts Neptune in Pisces. Constructive dreaming counts as artistic work, too. Look forward to an emotionally rich and deep weekend of socializing. Choose your company well. Think positive.

Mon Aug 06 the Moon conjuncts Uranus in Aries. This boils over with independent thoughts and your own creativity. Don't expect to get it all expressed in this one day. Mercury has been slowing down, getting stronger, preparing for its retrograde to end tomorrow. Focus, focus, edit, edit, perfect and polish. Heads Up.

Tue Aug 07 the Moon is in Aries when Venus changes signs, leaves Gemini at last and enters the lunar and moody sign of Cancer. Expect taste, manners, and all things social to get less sparkly and more touchy-feeling. Emotional currents will run deeper, too. You can write some profound and beautiful things now.

Wed Aug 08 the Moon is in Taurus all day. Keep your head down and work steadily. Slow is fine. In fact, think slow, steady, and strong.

Fri Aug 10 the Moon enters the sign of Gemini. Write, read, write. Stock up on writing supplies, then write. Or at least invite other writer-related people to come brainstorm and share some time during the weekend. This window of Mercury-promoted energy and madness only lasts till very early Monday. Go for it!

Sat Aug 11 the Moon conjuncts Jupiter in Gemini. Think big and lucky. Write that way. You can also cruise many parties, or a few big parties. Many people may find you and want to talk. That makes it a good weekend to listen, too.

Mon Aug 13 the Moon conjuncts Venus in Cancer. May your workspace look and feel beautiful. Indulge loving feelings and expressions towards your family, home, and even your country. You don't have to go so far as War and Peace, but that's the general sentiment. Three hours later the Moon opposes Pluto. Heads Up. Normally this Pluto opposition doesn't warrant mention but in this case it makes an interesting see-saw exchange of energy with the Venus conjunction. There may be something off-beat and appealing that you can use in some project or discussion. It will be even stronger in a few days.

Wed Aug 15 the Moon is void of course in Cancer when Venus exactly opposes Pluto. These two planets together can generate strong vibrations, some of them kinky or out'n'out erotic. Sex is a huge part of life. Heavens knows, sex and love are a huge huge part of fiction, literature, heck, of all art. You don't have to, like, overly indulge today, but it might be harder to tune it out today than most other day. Just so you know. This being a Wednesday, you might be tempted to write out some of this into scenes or poems or, heck, op ed articles for the local paper. Write, but don't feel obliged to show anybody else.

Thu Aug 16 the Moon is is Leo all day. Feel bright, creative, and willing to take an artistic risk or two just for the fun of it. Heads Up, though. It's the day before the New Moon. Be safe and sensible. Automatic Heads Up.

Fri Aug 17 is the New Moon at 25 Leo. Make this a month to begin something fundamentally noble. The build-up is interesting, and powerful (in a constructive way). First the Sun sextiles Saturn. Respect and meet some obligation or deadline in a noble style. Three and a half hours later a very dark Moon sextiles Saturn. You may have a secret fear or two, but this only makes you more careful and wiser. Fifteen whole minutes later we get the New Moon at 25 Leo. This can be like the spotlight hitting the stage in a dark theatre. Be prepared and willing to make your work shine all month long.

Tue Aug 21 the Moon conjuncts Saturn in Libra. Return those phone calls and emails, and gain respect from your writer colleagues. Six and a half hours later the Moon conjuncts Mars in Libra. There's extra energy for dealing with other people. This includes any characters that are fighting back against your best laid plot plans. It's also the last day of the month for the Sun to be in the sign of Leo. Often the last degree of a sign has some extra intensity. It being Leo, it could come as a bright flash. Heads Up. Do something special and make it good.

Wed Aug 22 the Moon is in Scorpio when the Sun changes signs, leaves Leo and moves into Virgo. Watch for the world to tone down a bit and maybe become slightly more, ah, mercurial and intellectual. It's a good month for editing, rewriting, checking your facts, and be more careful and more accurate in general. Obviously, it's a good month for doing nonfiction, and for finding fault in what passes for media news these days.

Thu Aug 23 the planet Mars changes signs and moves out of Libra (where it's not especially comfortable) and into its traditional nocturnal home of Scorpio. Tensions, passions, and energies may get a bit darker and less out in the open. Some darker deeper angers might get more in-your-face. This is great stuff for the antagonist in your recent novel to know.

Sat Aug 25 the Moon is newly void of course in Sagittarius when Mars makes a trine to Neptune. You could easily make some late night magic happen under this aspect. If so, work to make sure it's not achieved so easily as to have been unwanted.

Sun Aug 26 the Moon conjuncts Pluto in Capricorn. If you don't actually work today, your thoughts may tend in that direction for tomorrow. Privately brainstorm and take notes.

Wed Aug 29 the Moon is in cool but expansive Aquarius all day. It's a great day to politely excuse yourself and get a ton of work done without feeling you're being rude about it.

Thu Aug 30 the Moon conjuncts Neptune. Something especially artistic and deep may catch your attention and touch your heart. Inspiration can come from any direction.

Fri Aug 31 we have a second Full Moon, a Blue Moon, at 08 Pisces. This is way different from that earlier full moon in Aquarius. Look forward to a sensitive, empathetic month. Love yourself as much you do others this month, and safeguard your heart. Later in the evening, Mercury moves out of the sign Leo and enters its nocturnal home of Virgo. Now we can really exploit the virtues of Virgo. In some ways, this is a better month for writers and artists than the month of the Sun in Gemini. See what you can do with this.

It stands to be a very productive month. Your word count and other outputs may not be the most prolific and set the world on fire, but what gets done can be truly and darn nearly perfectly done. Be happy with all your progress, no matter how slight you feel it has been. You can do fantastically finished and flawless work. It might not find a publisher next week, but no one can take this talent and skill away from you. It's there all year long, whenever you need or want it. Let this month of high summer shine on you and let your best qualities, and sources of good luck, grow and bloom. Heads Up!
