Silent Spring and Chiron Return

Silent Spring is a book written by Rachel Carson and published by Houghton Mifflin on September 27, 1962. The book is widely credited with helping launch the contemporary American environmental movement. (Wikipedia)

Astrologically- the Sept. 28, 1962 New Moon @ 5 Libra, featured the centaur planet Chiron (discovered in 1977), symbol of the wounded healer archetype, opposing the key aspect of the 60's- Uranus (awakenings & revolutions) conjunct Pluto (destruction & renewal). As a midpoint picture it looks like this: Chiron = Uranus/Pluto. Since Chiron has a 50 year cycle, the Silent Spring and US environmental movement are having their Chiron Return- a life milestone. (Generally speaking, Chironic processes involve healing duality and whole-making; realizing deeper levels of synthesis in mind, body, and soul.) Currently, Uranus and Pluto have reached the first crisis-point, the waxing square, in their 138 year unfolding cycle birthed in the mid 60's.

Chiron entered Pisces the Fishes, the sign most associated with the oceans, the exact day of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig explosion in the Gulf of Mexico- a environmental disaster of epic proportions. Chiron and Neptune (aka Poseidon- god of the seas) have been in almost lock-step with each other, but as Chiron moves more quickly it's beginning to separate.
