Today (Oct. 13) and tomorrow we're in the dark or balsamic phase of the lunar cycle where the Moon is not visible. This phase, which is the final preparation for the Oct. 15 New Moon @ 22.32 Libra (5:04 am, PDT) has an affinity with Pisces and the 12th house. The drive to establish common ground and deal with others fairly in the spirit of cooperation is one we associate with the sign of Libra, signified by the Scales. Of course, it's Libra's nature to seek relationships, as we can only truly know ourselves reflected in the mirror of another person.
The potential to actualize the Libran urge to merge in perfect harmony, is partly hampered by the fact that Venus, lord of Libra, is now placed in perfectionist Virgo. We strive for perfection in life knowing it's an illusive ideal. The shadow side of archetypal Virgo is being way too picky and critical.
Monday's Libra New Moon conjoins the benefic star Spica Alpha Virginis, the wheat "spike" in the left hand of the Maiden in the constellation of Virgo. "According to Ptolemy it is of the nature of Venus and Mars; and, to Alvidas, of Venus, Jupiter and Mercury. It gives success, renown, riches, a sweet disposition, love of art and science, unscrupulousness, unfruitfulness and injustice to innocence." [Vivian Robson]

This is an interesting news story, given that Mercury is stationary-retrograde on the exact day of the 2012 Presidential election.
