Sagittarius New Moon

The Dec. 5 New Moon in the expansive sign of the Archer occurs at an especially potent degree of the zodiac- 14 Sagittarius. And we should note that the lunar cycle set in motion by this New Moon, will culminate at the Winter Solstice with a Total Lunar Eclipse(29 Gemini).

According to astrologer Lynda Hill, the Sabian symbol for the 14th degree of Sagittarius is, "A vast panorama of sand and time is unfolding; the pyramids and sphinx in their glory rise before the eye. (360 Degrees of Wisdom: Charting Your Destiny With the Sabian Oracle) So we have a direct linkage between an image of ancient wisdom and the Sag New Moon- while Sagittarius itself is symbolized by a centaur aiming his arrows toward truth and higher knowledge, with total faith he will hit the mark.

This New Moon conjoins the heliocentric Nodes of Uranus at 14 Gemini-Sagittarius, which carry the highly excitable energy of that planet, to awaken from oppression and strive for freedom, self-determination, and revolution.

The so-called Great Attractor is located around the 14th degree of Sagittarius as well. According to the University of Illinois Cosmos, "The Milky Way and Andromeda galaxies [Andromeda is our nearest galactic neighbor] are the dominant structures in a galaxy cluster called the Local Group which is, in turn, an outlying member of the Virgo supercluster. Andromeda- about 2.2 million light-years from the Milky Way- is speeding toward our galaxy at 200,000 miles per hour. This motion can only be accounted for by gravitational attraction, even though the mass that we can observe is not nearly great enough to exert that kind of pull. The only thing that could explain the movement of Andromeda is the gravitational pull of a lot of unseen mass- perhaps the equivalent of 10 Milky Way-size galaxies- lying between the two galaxies.

Furthermore, our entire Local Group is hurtling toward the center of the Virgo cluster at one million miles per hour. The Virgo cluster lies some 50 million light years from Earth. The visible part of the cluster is but a small portion of what seems to be out there. Nevertheless, the Virgo Cluster, along with several other large clusters, are in turn speeding towards a gigantic unseen mass named The Great Attractor."

Phil Sedgwick has written about The Great Attractor:
"At a distance of some 65 Mega-parsecs away, in the general direction of Centaurus, a massive galactic anomaly quietly does its work. This enigma slowly sips upon a liquid-like flow of galaxies drawing them into its huge gravitational grip, following in a river-like stream at an astonishing 600 km/sec. This migration of galactic matter includes the extensive Virgo Cluster, the Hydra-Centaurus Supercluster, other groups and clusters and the Local Group- that would be us and our 30 plus galactic companions. For approximately 60 Mega-parsecs both upstream and downstream from us in this river, everything heads in the direction of the galactic cluster, Abell 3627. This astrophysical enigma is both huge and perplexing- thus, its unofficial, official namesake: The Great Attractor!"
Abell 3627

The planetary ruler of Sagittarius makes it's final hook-up with Uranus on Jan. 4, 2011- the same day as a Partial Solar Eclipse(13 Capricorn 39). Therefore, the Dec. 5 New Moon will resonate with the combined vibrations of Jupiter and Uranus, that evoke expansive awakenings, sudden opportunities, and positive change.

Planet From Another Galaxy

From BBC News:

"Astronomers claim to have discovered the first planet originating from outside our galaxy. The Jupiter-like planet, they say, is part of a solar system which once belonged to a dwarf galaxy. This dwarf galaxy was in turn devoured by our own galaxy, the Milky Way, according to a team writing in the academic journal Science.

The star, called HIP 13044, is nearing the end of its life and is 2000 light years from Earth. The discovery was made using a telescope in Chile."

Venus & Jupiter Go Direct!

The Sun continues it's annual passage through emotionally introverted Scorpio until Nov. 22, when the Sun enters the outgoing sign of Sagittarius the Archer. But on Nov. 18 the two most benefic planets- Venus and Jupiter, go stationary-direct, which can elicit a general feeling of love, happiness, and blessings.

On Oct. 8 Venus went retrograde at 13 Scorpio, and the recent New Moon(11/5) fell at that same degree. The house in one's birth chart where Venus has been transiting, is the area of life that may have been delayed or on hold- as were the affairs linked to the houses with Taurus and Libra on the cusp. As Venus relates to desires, pleasure, love, and relationships- it's retrograde period tends to reflect an inward focus on such matters, that may involve a process of review or revision. Since our values determine our decisions to a great extent, it's important to be clear about what we value, and what people or things support a true sense of self value.

Expansive Jupiter has been retrograde since July 23, and it's Nov. 18 station-direct only 4 days before the Sun enters Sagittarius(ruled by Jupiter), will infuse a sense of hopefulness and enthusiasm, as we start the holiday festivities with Thanksgiving here in the west.

The day before the Sun moves into fiery, upbeat Sag, we have a Full Moon at the 29th degree of Taurus the Bull- conjunct Alcyone, leading star of the Pleiades, known as the weeping star. (According to Ptolemy the Pleiades star cluster, or 'seven sisters', are of the nature of the Moon and Mars.) This is the second of five Full Moon's all at the 29th and final degree of their respective signs. The last portion or 'terms' of each zodiacal sign are ruled by either Mars or Saturn, and perhaps this is why the late degrees of signs are considered challenging or difficult. The squares from Neptune and Chiron to this Full Moon suggest inspired healing on the one hand, or wounded idealism on the other. (Perhaps, the transits of Neptune and Chiron to the U.S.(7/4/1776) Moon reflect the disappointment with President Obama.)

As we move into a less burdensome period after surviving the epic cardinal cross/crisis, and the recent Scorpionic phase of intense emotions and moulting, we can accept the good and appreciate our blessings with a more profound gratitude.

Sheer Lunacy

The following article presented by The Royal Bank of Scotland regarding the correlations between market behavior and the lunar cycle, suggests it's best to buy at the New Moon and sell at the Full Moon.

Venus as Morning Star

Venus makes her heliacal rise, or first appearance as a morning star, rising in the pre-dawn sky today just before the Sun. As a herald of the new day, Venus is called Phosphorus and Lucifer, the latter name meaning "light bearer." The Maya viewed the morning star Venus as a negative omen or harmful deity- probably related to the retrograde motion of Venus at such times, and thus her significations as goddess of love, beauty, and unions, are diminished at best.

Venus was associated with the Mesoamerican god Quetzalcoatl, and the heliacal rising of Venus has shown correlations with events such as "the downfall of leaders, plane crashes, and embarrassing situations in high places." If I remember correctly, the Bill Clinton-Monica Lewinsky scandal hit the headlines with Venus in this cyclical phase.

Yesterday's fatal crash of Flight 883 in Sancti Spiritus, Cuba, occurred as the Scorpio Sun and Venus were setting.

Turning of the Wheel, a blog post by Allison Rae:
"In this season of death and rebirth, transformational energies reach a peak next week with the Samhain-New Moon gateway. Venus' heliacal rise on November 5 amplifies the mystical, healing qualities of this shamanic passage.

Enter the void, the depths of the soul. Prepare for rebirth.

We're dancing with the shadow during Venus' shamanic journey of the Underworld this Halloween season. The Samhain fire burns away pain, suffering and outdated beliefs as Venus continues her retrograde transit, away from our view. She'll reappear next week as the morning star in the east and initiate a new eight-year cycle in Scorpio."

Scorpio New Moon

The Nov. 5(PDT) Scorpio New Moon is a powerful seed moment for several reasons. Firstly- it falls near the cross-quarter day(Samhain) between the Fall Equinox and Winter Solstice, when the Sun reaches 15 degrees of Scorpio. Secondly- this lunation conjoins the bright asteroid Vesta, known as the goddess of the hearth and keeper of the sacred flame. Thirdly- the New Moon corresponds with a potent Pluto-Node contact(11/9), which in itself suggests fateful events and 'endings' of an extreme nature. And fourthly, the New Moon in Scorpio occurs within hours of both Chiron- the wounded shamanic healer, and Neptune(dreams & inspiration) going direct, after being retrograde for 5 months.

Scorpio likes to go deep emotionally and penetrate to the core of our desires and motivations. Whatever ruling planet we attribute to Scorpio- Mars or Pluto, this sign is acutely aware of the dark elements of the underworld, and the inevitable process of birth, death, and renewal.

The New Moon's close linkage with the asteroid Vesta suggests a more focused and committed approach to the inner or outer matters at hand. As Vesta has an affinity with Scorpio(and Virgo) and the spirit of devotion, the downside now is fanatical tendencies- all or nothing extremes. Healthy sublimation to achieve a goal requiring focused effort is a more positive expression.

Mundanely speaking- the 4th house emphasis in the New Moon chart cast for Washington, D.C., fits the GOP's success in the mid-term election, which has been shaping up as referendum on President Obama's administration.

The Pluto-Node-Moon contact rising in Delhi at the exact New Moon, suggests some rather extreme situations or upheavals in India. This potent triple conjunction is rising at San Francisco and Sacramento on Nov. 9- but I'm not forecasting local seismic activity without the suitable set-up. (Indonesia's Mt. Merapi volcano that's been spewing lava and smoke for more than a week, erupted today(11/3) with its biggest blast yet, shooting searing ash miles into the air as nearby villages were hastily evacuated.) The modern nation's of India, Israel, and Pakistan, all 'born' during 1947 under the Saturn-0-Pluto in Leo, may be subject to major changes as the New Moon activates those heavy natal planets.
Pakistan Mosque Bombing: BBC News- Nov. 5

The unfolding dance between Chiron and Neptune continues for another several years, as both celestial bodies shift into Pisces the Fishes. Chiron actually entered the sign of Pisces for the first time on the day of the Deepwater Horizon blowout in the Gulf of Mexico. But some kind of healing and realignment are on the agenda when Chiron is involved, and Neptune at it's best, stirs a spiritual urge to merge more deeply and serve the greater good. The forward motion of these celestial bodies lends astral support to healing and unity, both on a personal and global level.

SF Giants Win World Series

The Nov. 5 Scorpio New Moon chart has a Giants victory all over it. The New Moon falls in the 5th house of sports @ San Francisco, in a favorable trine(120 angle) with the Ascendant, that conjoins the brightest star Sirus- the Dog Star, indicative of honor and renown. Plus, the lucky Jupiter-0-Uranus of 'sudden opportunities or success', is right on the Midheaven(goals, status, and reputation).

Lovable Giants Deserve Title, by Dan Shauhnessy
"My heart's with San Francisco.

I love the Giants and I hope they win the World Series. They take a 3-1 Series lead into tonight's Game 5 in Texas against Cliff Lee.

A lot of folks don't care about this 2010 World Series. We don't have high-profile teams from New York, Boston, Los Angeles or Chicago. There's no Texas Ranger Nation and the Giants don't have a galaxy of Cooperstown candidates. Executives at Fox no doubt would prefer the Phillies and Yankees, but I'm into the Giants. I'm into the city by the Bay.

The Giants have great uniforms, play in the best ballpark in the majors, in the best city in America. How's that for starters?"
