The 7.0 magnitude quake that struck Tuesday destroyed much of the capital. The presidential palace, ministries, the city's largest hospital, schools and homes collapsed, and the city's historical monuments were destroyed.
The International Red Cross in Geneva says up to 3 million people have been affected. Witnesses say bloodied bodies are everywhere. Thousands of people are feared dead, and many are missing." (VOA News.com)
The earthquake hit 12 days after the Dec. 31 lunar eclipse, and 3 days before the Jan. 15 annular solar eclipse. The Dec. 31 eclipse did indeed foreshadow this disaster, with Algol- the most malefic of stars on the Ascendant at Port-au-Prince. According to Vivian Robson, a contemporary authority on fixed stars, Algol “causes misfortune, violence, decapitation, hanging, electrocution and mob violence, and gives a dogged and violent nature that causes death to the native or others. It is the most evil star in the heavens.”
The Dec. 31 lunar eclipse belongs to the 1280 years Saros series 115, that began on Apr. 21, 1000, with it's first eclipse in Scorpio conjunct Pluto, and square Mars. So Saros 115 had an extremely violent birth, that linked to Haiti by angularity. The eclipse Sun-Moon-Pluto axis fell on the horizon of Port-au-Prince, and squared Mars near the IC(4th house cusp). And the eclipse Ascendant was tightly(9' orb) conjunct Algol- the Medusa's head. The Moon's North Node was near Sheratan, a violent star associated with natural disasters. And Venus, lord of the Ascendant, was out-of-bounds at extreme declination, and thus inclined to extremes.

The Dec. 31 lunar eclipse Ascendant(25 Taurus) in Haiti conjoined Algol, and also Saturn(25 Taurus) of the first eclipse(4/21/1000). Mars was near the eclipse IC, as it was for the first eclipse- while the eclipsed Moon and Venus(lord of the Ascendant) were out-of-bounds, and therefore like planets on steroids.
The June 26, 2010 Lunar Eclipse
Looking forward- the lunar eclipse(5 Capricorn) of June 26, 2010, will conjunct Pluto, and square Jupiter-Uranus. The last lunar eclipse to align with Pluto, was April 24, 1986, just 2 days before the Chernobyl nuclear meltdown. That eclipse fell in Scorpio with Pluto also in Scorpio. The upcoming lunar eclipse occurs 5 days after the summer solstice, or Cancer solar ingress. The chart for the 2010 Cancer ingress has Pluto on the IC(4th house cusp) in Berlin, as it is in Germany's 2009 solar return chart. And therefore, the June 26 lunar eclipse appears to have some special significance for this nation. But as Germany is not prone to earthquakes, it's not exactly clear how the intense and extreme Plutonian energy will manifest.

2000 Jupiter-0-Saturn 'Grand Conjunction'
The May 28, 2000 Grand Conjunction(GC) of Jupiter and Saturn, is a kind of 'world chart', which does tend to reflect global events like major earthquakes, etc. The Jan. 15 solar eclipse is spot on the Grand Conjunction South Node(25 Capricorn) of 'losses'. Whereas, the Jupiter-Neptune-Chiron transit to the Grand Conjunction angles(Haiti), mirrors the mass wounding-suffering, and the outpouring of empathy and compassion from the world community, in the aftermath of disaster.
The Jan. 15 solar eclipse chart for Port-au-Prince, has the triple Jupiter-Neptune-Chiron conjunction on the IC(the ground and foundations), which is the most 'earthquake sensitive', and weather related point in a mundane horoscope.

thanks for your blog, very insightful. i look forward to reading more.
Thanks Angelina. I really need to focus on my writing, which I've been neglecting. I think I have some good ideas, that I will be sharing in the near future. Namaste...
Hello David, I also love your blog. I wonder why we would not be able to use astrology to be better prepared for natural catastropic events (ie predictive). Is it because there are too many areas to look at or because people would not believe it ?
Hello Arnaud,
Well, we are working with a lot of variables when attempting to predict natural disasters- but I still think we should be better at it then we are. In fact- I've been working on predicting the next major quake here in California. And I'm presenting my findings at a Dec. 2010 lecture for the SF Astrological Society.
Part of the problem with mundane astrology, is knowing which charts work best. We don't always agree on the most accurate national chart, for instance. And the ancient astrologers, did not even use such horoscopes in making predictions, but relied mainly on the Grand Conjunctions of Jupiter and Saturn(20 yr. cycle), and the solar ingress charts for the solstice and equinox. The Aries ingress(Spring Equinox) chart is generally considered to be the most important, and sets the stage for the new astrological year.
I will be posting something on the total solar eclipse of July 11, 2010 in the nest few days.
Thanks for commenting,
David
