September 2008
Aug. 30- The Virgo New Moon kicks off the month in alignment with the waxing trine between Jupiter and Saturn, that suggests a favorable period for steady growth. The drive to expand horizons, and the need to consolidate resources, are in harmony this month, which makes genuine development possible.
Sept. 7- The house in one's chart where Jupiter is transiting, and the natal houses it rules(with Sag or Pisces on the cusp), begin to show improvement, as Jupiter turns direct now. This planet has been retrograde since May 8. And although Jupiter's not at it's best in conservative Capricorn- it's still a positive influence.
Sept. 8- Pluto turns direct at the 29th degree of Sagittarius, and Jupiter and Saturn perfect their trinal aspect. The station of Pluto is somewhat ominous, as the planet of extremes, ever so slowly shifts into forward motion. Pluto's entry into Capricorn in late Jan 08, occurred with the first signs of global economic problems, and intimates a long term period of transformative crisis that serves to purge the system of decay and corruption.
The Jupiter-Saturn trine is a favorable celestial event, that indicates the prospect of greater balance, and reserved optimism. Financial and business matters may flow more smoothly, if only for awhile.
Sept. 15- Today's Full Moon that conjoins Uranus and squares Pluto, is not a typical lunation in mellow Pisces, but a more unpredictable event with intense undertones. Transformative change is written in the stars with bold letters, as the Full Moon culminates at 2:14 am, PDT. This Full Moon has a marked violent potential for the USA.
Sept. 22- The Libra ingress is another name for the Autumnal Equinox, as the Sun crosses the earth's equator(from our point of view) as it heads south, and enters the sign of Libra, symbolized by the scales of justice. The darkness is increasing.
Sept. 23- Venus enters intense and possessive Scorpio, where she's not always on her best behavior. Emotional and sexual encounters are frought with heightened drama.
Sept. 24- Mercury turns retrograde in relationship-oriented Libra until October 15. This period is best spent in reviewing and revising one's approach to the affairs linked with the natal house Mercury's transiting, and the houses it rules(Gemini or Virgo cusp). Communication may require more effort, as misconnections of all sorts are more likely now, but not inevitable. People from your past may resurface. Think twice before making a major purchase.
Sept. 29- Today's Libra New Moon marks the start of a fresh social cycle, where harmony is most desirable. With the lord of Libra(Venus) still in Scorpio, all is not sweetness and light, but dealing with issues delicately as they arise, is best.

Mars Enters Libra Today
The red planet entered the sign of Libra today, where it's considered somewhat debilitated. And there were two world events thus far, that clearly resonate with the timing and significance of violent Mars changing signs.
On a personal level, the passage of Mars through Libra(until Oct. 3/4) furthers actions aimed at building consensus, social harmony and cooperation- both locally and globally. But as Mars transits natal Venus, Jupiter, Sun, Saturn, and Pluto, in the U.S. chart(7/4/1776), from now until October- the tension with Russia over it's power play in Georgia, may continue to escalate. Hopefully- cooler heads will prevail in this matter, which has the potential of getting way out of hand.
The two events in the news which are directly related to Mars entering Libra:
Bombing in Algeria
"A bomb at a police college east of the Algerian capital, Algiers, has killed 43 people and injured a further 38. The bombing targeted a paramilitary police training school at Issers, near Boumerdes, about 40 miles east of Algiers.
An attacker drove a car full of explosives into the school's entrance. Algeria has suffered regular attacks blamed on militants linked to al-Qaeda."

The Libra Mars ingress chart for Algiers, has a tense t-square between the Moon(28 Pisces), Pluto(29 Sagittarius)- and Mars, near the 12th house cusp of covert activity, rules the 7th house of open enemies.
Ingress Midheaven = 29 Cancer 59(the degree of 'endings'), and Ascendant = 26 Libra(exactly opposite the Aug. 16 lunar eclipse Ascendant).
The Aug. 16 lunar eclipse chart for Algiers with a 26 Aries Ascendant, is ruled by Mars, which tightly squares Pluto. The eclipsed Moon casts a shadow over the 4th house of domestic affairs.
Afghan Ambush Kills French Troops
"Ten French soldiers have been killed in an ambush by Taleban fighters east of the Afghan capital, Kabul. A further 21 French soldiers were wounded in one of the heaviest casualty tolls suffered by international peacekeepers in Afghanistan.
The loss of life was the heaviest suffered by the French military since 58 paratroopers were killed in Beirut in 1983, the French news agency AFP reports.

The Libra Mars ingress cast for Paris, France, is relevant to this event too. Because of the close proximity of Paris to Algiers, the ingress Midheaven(Paris) is also at the 29th degree of Cancer, with Mars ruling the 7th house of open adversaries.
It appears that the red planet Mars changing signs, has timed or triggered both these violent attacks.

Military Coup in Mauritania
From Associated Press, August 06, 2008
NOUAKCHOTT, Mauritania - "Army officers upset with government overtures toward Islamic hard-liners staged a coup in Mauritania on Wednesday, overthrowing the first government to be freely elected in this sprawling desert nation in more than 20 years."
The traditional meaning of a solar eclipse, is that some leaders will fall from power, one way or another. The Aug. 1 solar eclipse chart for Mauritania's capital of Nouakchott, features Pluto quite prominently- conjunct the 4th house cusp(adversaries of the government), and square the Ascendant(conditions of the state and it's people). Pluto signifies extreme events, power struggles, and upheaval.
The August 1 Solar Eclipse:
Midheaven = 29 Gemini 46
Pluto = 28 Sagittarius 52
Ascendant = 29 Virgo 45

A Review of Cosmos & Psyche
Culture, Correlations & Consciousness
The expanding astrological horizon
A essay-review by Gerry Goddard of
Cosmos and Psyche: Intimations of a New World View.
Viking 2005, by Richard Tarnas.
"It is ironic that astrology which reveals the resonant patterns of meaning linking mind and cosmos has until now, despite its long effective practice and vast store of knowledge, failed to establish a systematic methodology and to gather a body of evidence sufficient to command the serious attention of the larger intellectual community. Astrologers are frustratingly aware of being in possession of a useful tool, like Galileo's telescope, yet repeatedly compelled to encounter the established authority's refusal to look directly at the existing evidence. But more than possessing a mere tool, astrologers knowwhether or not they articulate itthat they are privy to a cosmological vision that lies beyond the myopic horizon of the strictly objective and quantitative scientific eye."

The Eclipse and Mars-180-Uranus
On a personal level, the solar eclipse seems to have a rather positive or benign effect, thus far. But mundanely speaking, I think we should expect some dramatic events of an extreme nature, as this lunation unfolds it's latent energy, and the Mars-Uranus opposition perfects(Aug. 6).
The lunar eclipse of Aug. 16 features an almost exact, and explosive square between Mars and Pluto- the often violent Scorpio planets.
From the BBC News:
Fatal Stampede at Hindu Temple
"At least 140 people have died in a stampede at a Hindu temple in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. A rain shelter on the mountain path to the temple collapsed, triggering rumours of a landslide.
Tens of thousands of devotees gathered to celebrate the annual nine-day festival of Shravan Navratras, were climbing up a 4-km trail leading to the hilltop temple, chanting and singing hymns, when the stampede happened."

The Aug. 1 eclipse chart for the site of this tragedy, has the eclipse in the deadly 8th house, and the volatile Mars-180-Uranus forming a grand cross with the local horizon(Ascendant-Descendant axis).
************
From Reuters: "At least nine climbers have perished on K-2 in Pakistan in the worst day for mountaineering on the world's second-highest peak, and the toll could rise further, expedition organizers said on Sunday.
Catastrophe struck on Friday(eclipse day), when a chunk of ice broke off from a pillar or cuboid of ice, and tore away fixed lines from a perilous steep gully known as the Bottleneck, above 26,902 feet."
Finally- from the South Asia News: "Nepalese police arrested nearly 300 Tibetan exiles Sunday during an anti-China demonstration in the capital Kathmandu. The protestors were rounded up near the Chinese embassy's consular section, which has become the focus of anti-China demonstrations by exiled Tibetans."
The total solar eclipse path cut right through Asia and China, with the tense Mars-180-Uranus bringing it's own sudden intensity and unpredictability, to related events.
August 4 Update: China Border Assault
"Sixteen Chinese policemen have been killed in an attack on a border post in the restive Muslim region of Xinjiang, state media say. Two attackers reportedly drove up to the post in a rubbish truck and threw two grenades, before moving in to attack the policemen with knives.
The attack came four days before the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games."(BBC News)
Aug. 5 Update: 6.1 Quake Shakes China
"A 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck China's Sichuan province on Tuesday, killing at least one person and seriously injuring five others. Sichuan province is still recovering from the devastating May 12 earthquake and its aftershocks. Another 18 people suffered minor injuries.
Hours before the quakes struck, the Olympic torch relay made its way through parts of Sichuan, on its way to the Summer Games, which get under way Friday in Beijing, some 745 miles away."(CNN)
