From BBC News:
"The Himalayan nation of Nepal has become the world's newest republic, ending 240 years of monarchy. A constituent assembly meeting in the capital, Kathmandu, overwhelmingly voted to abolish royal rule. The Maoists, the largest party after laying down arms and standing in last month's elections, were committed to ousting King Gyanendra.
People celebrated wildly in the streets of the capital after news of the assembly vote.
The approved proposal states that Nepal is "an independent, indivisible, sovereign, secular and an inclusive democratic republic nation". Only four members of the 601-seat assembly opposed the change.
Royal privileges "will automatically come to an end", the declaration says. It also states that the king's main palace must be vacated within a fortnight, to be transformed into a museum."
Nepal's monarchy comes to end, as Pluto returns to the position it held at the time of it's(the monarchy) birth. The New Moon of June 3 signifies a major new beginning for this nation, with transformative Pluto on the Midheaven and square the Ascendant, in the capital of Kathmandu.
The 2008 Aries solar ingress(Spring Equinox), evokes radical political change, as the planet of revolution(Uranus) exactly culminates at Nepal's capital!

Burma Forecast 2008-09
Burmese astrologer Khin Myint Myat is predicting "another wave of natural disasters- either powerful storms or devastating earthquakes- in the region before the end of the year". While her peer, the white-haired astrologer Myint Lwin, "is upset because he failed to see Cyclone Nargis coming, and vows to do better next time".
The total solar eclipse of Aug. 1, 2008 will be visible in Asia, and is therefore sharply focused in that region of the world. But I think further epic changes in Asia, and Burma in particular, are more likely to occur next year. Although, the Aug. 1 solar eclipse may presage major events in China, of a possibly violent nature.

The 2009 solar return for the astrologically elected chart of Burma(1/4/48, 4:20 am), reflects the prospect of violent upheavals, in some form or another, and also extreme 'earth changes'. This return chart has the explosive combination of Pluto(3 Cap) and Mars(5 Cap) on the Nadir(4 Cap), in square to the Ascendant(4 Libra). Consequently, it seems the nation of Burma will be subject to extreme conditions, and intense domestic hostilities, or violent weather patterns.
The 2009 Aries solar ingress chart(Spring Equinox) for Rangoon, also has Pluto conjunct the Nadir, with the angles on the Aries-world point. This suggests that Burma will be be a focal point of the collective trends signified by Pluto's move into Capricorn. Thus any cracks in the geological, political, or economic foundations, may be torn asunder by the god of the underworld- Pluto.
The 2009 Cancer ingress chart(Summer Solstice) at Rangoon, shows Pluto exactly conjunct the Nadir(in mundo!)- and therefore at it's most powerful position, and indicative of extreme weather, or major 'earth changes'. About a month after the Solstice, the 6 minute long total solar eclipse of 7/22/09 sweeps through southern Asia, and falls on the AS/MC(Ascendant/Midheaven midpoint) in Rangoon, which links the eclipse directly with this 'time and place'(AS/MC). In astrological notation it looks like this: Eclipse AS/MC = 1 Leo = S.Node 0 Leo = solar eclipse 29 Cancer.

The SuperMoon of June 22, 2009, is a likely trigger for extreme events in Burma, and around the world(esp. Afghanistan). The Moon is at perigee(closest to the earth), out-of-bounds(at extreme declination), and opposes Pluto! This New Moon triggers Burma's 2009 solar return Midheaven(4 Cancer), and the Cancer ingress chart, as well. Moreover, the fateful Nodes straddle the meridian at Rangoon, with the New Moon Ascendant conjunct the violent star Hamal.
Interestingly, both the 8/1/08 solar eclipse(9 Leo 32), and the solar eclipse of 1/25/09(6 Aquarius 30), hit the natal Saturn of Burma's junta(3/2/62). So this eclipse activation suggests challenges to government control and authority(Saturn). And finally- the major Saturn-Uranus oppositions(11/2008 to 7/2010), mark the defining 'Full Moon' phase of the 45 year(Saturn-Uranus) cycle that began in 1988, when Burma's military regime taking power(9/18/88). (Al Qaeda, and Hamas, were also 'born' in 1988.)

Astrology and the Search for Meaning
"Astrology is an ancient tool that, when used in concert with Jungian depth psychology, can support us in purposes of self-discovery, soul growth, and being "brought to completion." Astrology's "map of the soul" provides each person with a map of their inborn potentials and then symbolically shows how these inborn potentials will seek to systemically unfold over the course of the person's lifetime.
In fact, what I call the "living out" of one's birth chart is the psychological goal and/or task of this lifetime... In Jungian psychological terms, this task is called the process of "individuation" or the natural internal movement toward "wholeness."

What is is and how it works
by Martin Davis
Why might an individual experience certain events and certain types of feelings at one location and not another? Why might some places make you feel energised and motivated, while others make you feel uncomfortable and seem to bring nothing but trouble?
Why on earth wouldn't they? The location factor of our environment takes account of place, space and direction, and astrology is founded upon the principles that these reflect meaning, symbolic significance and tangible effects.
The branch of astrology that recognizes the shifting influences we encounter at differing locations is captured by the study of AstroCartoGraphy.

Cyclone Nargis Slams Burma
From BBC News:
"The death toll from a devastating cyclone that hit western Burma(Myanmar) on Saturday has now climbed to almost 4,000 people, state media say. More than 3,900 people were killed in the city of Rangoon and the Irrawaddy region alone, state television said.
Thousands more are feared dead and several hundred thousand people are now in need of shelter and drinking water, according to the United Nations. Five regions have been declared disaster zones in the storm's wake.
If the toll is confirmed, Tropical Cyclone Nargis would be the world's deadliest storm since a 1999 cyclone in India, which killed up to 10,000 people."

The Feb. 21 lunar eclipse degree(2 Virgo), is being triggered by the station(May 2) of Saturn at 2 Virgo, while the eclipse chart for Burma's capital city Rangoon, receives stimulation from both Venus and Mars.

The lunar eclipse Ascendant(4 Taurus) conjoined the malefic star Sheratan, Beta Arietis, the Ram's north horn. "Bodily injuries, entrapment, destruction by fire, explosions, war, earthquake, storm, or other violent upheavals..."(Diana Rosenberg) And the eclipse chart ruler Venus just crossed the Ascendant(-0-Sheratan), as violent Mars hit the Nadir(26 Cancer)- the point most related to local weather conditions.
The Aries solar ingress(Spring Equinox) chart featured the potentially destructive t-square between the Sun, Mars, and Pluto, in high relief at Rangoon. The powerful Mars-Pluto opposition fell on the horizon there, in square to the Sun and the Midheaven.
Aries solar ingress Midheaven = 1 Aries = Sun at 0 Aries.
Ascendant = 8 Cancer = Mars 6 Cancer = Pluto 1 Capricorn.
Update May 5:
Today's New Moon is especially powerful, as it falls at the 15th degree of Taurus(-45- the Aries/world point), in hard aspect to Pluto, and with the Moon at it's closest point to the earth(perigee). Astrologer Richard Nolle refers to such a lunation as a SuperMoon, that may portend a higher risk of storms, extreme tides, earthquakes, and high winds, etc.
The New Moon chart for Burma's capital of Rangoon reflects the dire circumstances perfectly. The Moon's Nodes, Neptune, and Chiron, are aligned with the meridian, and square the Ascendant there. This Node, Neptune, Chiron conjunction, refers to a wounding(Chiron) of the collective(Nodes) that involves the seas and flooding(Neptune)- as well as, the spiritual healing invoked by a disaster of this magnitude.
New Moon positions:
Midheaven = 22 Leo.
Chiron = 21 Aquarius.
N.Node = 24 Aquarius.
Neptune = 24 Aquarius.
Ascendant = 21 Scorpio.

Saturn Changes Direction
May 2- Saturn stationary-direct, and Mercury enters Gemini. Generally speaking, Saturn's a heavy influence, but the ongoing trine with Pluto offers some support in taking care of business- although the pressure to deal with responsibilities is intensified, as well.
The process of refining our personal focus has been important since Saturn first went retrograde on Dec. 19, 2007. This period of inner refinement was actually a time of preparation, although it may have seemed trying and tedious.
Now that Saturn is in forward motion, we can slowly begin to move ahead in accomplishing our goals, by working with discrimination, and industrious effort. As Mercury rules the sign occupied by Saturn(Virgo), it's entry into Gemini brings increased mental energy to bear on the matters at hand. We can expect all forms of communication to pick up in speed and quantity.

May...putting down roots...
"This May can be a highly productive month, a time when we make our plans for the future with full awareness of the vagaries of radical change occurring around us and in our world. We can devise a best practices approach by which to realize our goals and achieve our aims. We may be able to come up with innovative ways by which to stretch our finances, making our monies go further under the impending inflationary currents that may become increasingly evident. The early part of the month offers focused energies by which we can budget our time and our expenses and concentrate on the truly important while letting go of the extraneous.
This month is a time for us to put down roots for our new projects and new activities. We can build upon rock now, for we have the ability of considering different facets that may impinge upon our plans, all the while maintaining flexibility in order to adapt to shifting conditions."
