Bhutto Buried Amid Mass Mourning

"Tens of thousands of people have attended the funeral of assassinated Pakistani politician Benazir Bhutto. Mourners converged on the family mausoleum where she was buried next to her father Zulfikar Ali Bhutto near their home village in Sindh province. The coffin, draped in the flag of Ms Bhutto's party, was driven in a white ambulance through the dense crowds.

Pakistan's interior ministry has said it has evidence al-Qaeda and the Taleban were behind the assassination. Officials were speaking after a reported claim of responsibility by al-Qaeda in Afghanistan.

Ms Bhutto, a former Pakistani prime minister, was shot at an election rally in Rawalpindi on Thursday by a gunman who then blew himself up.

Pakistani security forces are on high alert, with at least 19 people killed in protests by Bhutto supporters across the country since the assassination."

A Pakistani astrologer has posted a birthtime for Bhutto, that appears to be correct.
Data: Benazir Bhutto- June 21, 1953, 7:59 am, Karachi. Besides the major transit of Pluto to Bhutto's Sun and Venus- Neptune has been aspecting her Pluto and Mars. The Xmas eve Full Moon on natal Mars, was the final timing factor in her violent demise.

Using the 7:59 am birthtime- Bhutto's 2007 solar return for Karachi, reflects the end quite clearly. Saturn, ruler of the Ascendant(her person, and well-being) opposes Neptune, which denotes both deception, and martyrdom. Dark Pluto(extreme events; destruction) is opposite the Sun('giver of life')- lord of the 8th house(death). And the 8th house Moon(20 Virgo), was overshadowed by the Sept. 11 solar eclipse(18 Virgo).

According to various reports, Al Qaeda may have been involved with Bhutto's killing, and I believe the related astrology confirms this to be true.

Oldest Lunar Calendar Identified

"What could be the oldest lunar calendar ever created has been identified on the walls of the famous, prehistoric caves at Lascaux in France.

The interpretation that symbolic paintings, dating back 15,000 years, show the Moon going through its different phases comes from Dr Michael Rappenglueck, of the University of Munich.

The German researcher has previously associated patterns left in the caves with familiar stars and constellations.

He now says groups of dots and squares painted among representations of bulls, antelope and horses depict the 29-day cycle of the Earth's satellite."

The US and it's President in 2007-08

By Ray Merriman

"The United States of America is in the midst of powerful conflicts that are likely to define the legacy of President George W. Bush during his last two years in office. These conflicts are reflected in the progressions and transits to the horoscopes of both the nation and Mr. Bush. So too are the hopes for a resolution to these conflicts, and new paths that could benefit not only the American public, but the world community as well." Read More

The Nodes and Jupiter Change Signs

We have two major, astrological developments taking place on Dec. 18. Firstly- the Moon's Nodes enter the signs of Aquarius and Leo until Aug. 2009. And thus, most of the eclipses for the next two years will fall either in Aquarius or Leo. The Nodes of the Moon are essentially 'eclipse points', as the Sun and Moon must be near the Nodes for an eclipse to occur.

In Western natal astrology, the Moon's Nodes are often described as significators of fate, destiny, and karma. Whereas in Jyotish('the science of light')- the North Node is called Rahu, and represents one's material desires, while the Moon's South Node is named Ketu, and reflects one's spiritual desires.

Mundane(world-political) astrology sees the lunar Nodes as indicators of cultural trends, and mass destiny. Whereas, eclipses are catalysts for collective, or personal change.

Also on Dec. 18- expansive Jupiter enters the sign of Capricorn for about a year. This shift is the beginning of a more conservative trend, which is further intensified when Pluto moves into Capricorn on January 25, 2008. Cautious optimism, and steady growth, are hallmarks of Jupiter in down-to-earth Capricorn. The exuberance of Jupiter can be grounded in a more pragmatic approach during 2008. Faith and focus go hand in hand.

The Antikythera Mechanism

The world's oldest computer

"For decades, researchers have been baffled by the intricate bronze mechanism of wheels and dials created 80 years before the birth of Christ. The "Antikythera Mechanism" was discovered damaged and fragmented on the wreck of a cargo ship off the tiny Greek island of Antikythera in 1900.

Now, a joint British-Greek research team has found a hidden ancient Greek inscription on the device, which it thinks could unlock the mystery. The team believes the Antikythera Mechanism may be the world's oldest computer, used by the Greeks to predict the motion of the planets. The researchers say the device indicates a technical sophistication that would not be replicated for millennia and may also be based on principles of a heliocentric, or sun-centred, universe - a view of the cosmos that was not accepted by astronomers until the Renaissance."

The Sacred Text Archive

Astrology and Science among the Greeks and Romans

This is a study of star-worship by Franz Cumont. At the turn of the 20th century, Cumont collected all available astrological and astronomical texts from antiquity. This book summarizes his knowledge and theories on this subject. Cumont shows that astronomical knowledge was developed over time in the ancient Near East, eventually allowing prediction of phenomena such as the location of the planets, the phases of the moon, and eclipses. This knowledge was used as the basis of a religious system which was integrated into Greek and Roman Paganism. This involved worship of the planets and stars and a belief that after death (if virtuous) we ascend to the heavens. Other aspects of ancient star-worship that are still with us are our seven-day week and the transference of the winter Solstice into the celebration of the birth of Christ.

Attacks in Algiers

"The Algerian capital, Algiers, has been rocked by two deadly bomb attacks, on the country's Constitutional Council and the offices of the United Nations. The bombs were the latest in a series of attacks in Algeria this year.

No group has admitted responsibility, but public officials have blamed a militant Islamist group linked to al-Qaeda.

A recently-arrested militant had revealed that the Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat (GSPC) had planned several months ago to attack one of Tuesday's targets.

BBC Security Correspondent Frank Gardner says the manner of the bombings and choice of targets suggest the involvement of the group, which is now known as al-Qaeda in the Land of the Islamic Maghreb."

I try not to spend alot of time here, looking at the charts for violent events. But in the spirit of astrological research- a few points should be mentioned regarding this terrorist attack.

The major conjunction of Jupiter and Pluto in Sagittarius, is exact today. And one of the meanings attributed to this combination is religious(Jupiter) extremism(Pluto), or fanaticism(Pluto). So we would expect to see these planets in high focus, at an event that fits their intrinsic symbolism.

The heart and soul of any given moment/chart is signified by the Sun, Moon, and their midpoint. The Sun/Moon midpoint for these bombings is 28 degrees of Sagittarius. And the all-important Jupiter-Pluto conjunction falls at 28 Sagittarius. In astrological notation we have the picture: Sun/Moon = 28 Sagittarius = Jupiter/Pluto at 28 Sagittarius. Furthermore- the tense Moon-Mars opposition was on the horizon in Algiers, with Luna rising, and violent Mars setting.

Dec. 12 Update
Beirut Car Bombing
"The Lebanese army's chief of operations, Gen Francois al-Hajj, has been killed in a car bomb attack. Two other people died in the blast in the Christian town of Baabda, close to the presidential palace in Beirut.

Gen Hajj had been tipped to become army chief if Gen Michel Suleiman becomes president in an effort to resolve a lengthy political crisis. Parliament has failed to elect a president and the opposition refuses to recognise the elected government.

While the pro-West ruling bloc and pro-Syrian opposition, led by Hezbollah, agree Gen Suleiman should succeed former President Emile Lahoud to break a political impasse, the factions cannot agree on the formation of a new government.

The large explosion, which occurred at 0710 (0510GMT), left the area littered with the wreckage of burned-out vehicles, the BBC's Jim Muir reports from the scene.

The army command issued a statement blaming 'the criminal hand' for the attack."

The Jupiter-Pluto conjunction strikes again, as these planets rose in Beirut as this violent attack went down.
Event Ascendant = 27 Sagittarius = Jupiter/Pluto at 28 Sagittarius.

Astrologer Picks Putin's Successor

MOSCOW (AFP) — "While the world holds its breath to know who will succeed President Vladimir Putin, Russia's most famous astrologist says the answer already lies in the planets.

Gazing into a Sony laptop computer, rather than a crystal ball, Pavel Globa predicted that Putin would pick either First Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev or Prime Minister Viktor Zubkov to replace him in an election on March 2.

Why? Because 2008 is the year of the rat in the Chinese zodiac, which historically favours uncharismatic figures like the grey Medvedev and even more grey Zubkov, Globa said at a Moscow hotel.

"They don't stand out. No one really knows what they're saying, but they seem to be doing something. That's the rat."

Putin's intentions remain one of world politics' great enigmas. Most analysts think the former KGB officer will handpick a close ally to fill his Kremlin seat -- with Medvedev and Zubkov believed to be high on the secret list of candidates.

But few analysts would dare show the confidence of Globa, a small and dapper man of 54 whose often rambling performance appeared to mesmerise an entourage of half a dozen female acolytes, aides and astrologers.

Globa claims an 85 percent success rate, including predictions of the Soviet collapse, the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, and the September 11, 2001 attacks in New York and Washington.

Not for him, or his followers, the veiled magicians and mediums crowding Russia's tabloid newspaper small ads.

"Astrology is not about crystal balls and cards," sniffed Globa fan Tatyana Dadasheva. "Well, there is a branch of astrology that deals with palms.... In fact you can also read legs, birthmarks, anything. But we don't look in crystal balls."

Certainly Globa's special computer programme, combining birth dates with terrestrial and celestial data into a zodiac circle crossed by intersecting lines, left no doubt about the Kremlin riddle.

"It's either Zubkov or Medvedev," he said. "The winner will be a puppet to our president who will step down but retain a huge role."

The real uncertainty for Russia comes after, he warned, since the year of the rat always brings hope for change, followed by disillusion.

"1936 was the year of the rat and it seemed a quiet year. Hitler was still rising to power, Stalin hadn't launched into his excesses," said Globa, a dapper man of 54, now living in Berlin.

"2008 will be the illusion of hope and change. We will put our hopes in the year (but) Russia needs to prepare for crisis in 2012," he said.

The good news, according to Globa, is that if Russia can hang on another few decades, a "future heaven" awaits.

"Russia is the country that will profit the most from global warming because it's the coldest country in the world," he said. "We will enter a rather comfortable situation with a better climate, a population explosion, and a country where you can grow lemons, pineapples, champagne."

Globa has been popular in Russia since the early 1990s when the country shook off decades of stifling Soviet social mores.

However, the pendulum has swung back and although Globa still has a five-minute slot early in the morning on the TNT cable channel here, he's lived in Germany for the last nine years.

"There, people are more relaxed. They see us astrologists in the same way as psychologists who help people sort out problems," he said. "Here, people are absolutely polarised: they either love us or they hate us, saying astrology is nonsense, charlatanism, or the devil's work."

New Moon in Sagittarius

The Sagittarius New Moon is exact on Dec. 9, at 11:41 am(PST).

If an infusion of faith and self-confidence is needed, either personally, or globally- this New Moon should do the trick. With 5 planets in Sagittarius, it's wise to follow the collective urge to expand horizons, without going overboard. Certainly, the impulse to do things in a big way, is receiving impetus from the waxing Jupiter-Pluto conjunction. And with these planets on the Midheaven in DC and NYC- the nation's leadership has an opportunity to achieve great things, if it can avoid hubris.

Change, freedom, and autonomy, are strong underlying themes now, with Uranus squaring the New Moon. And the sextile from transcendence seeking Neptune, offers the possibility to dissolve limiting boundaries, and feelings of separateness.

The Jupiter-Pluto Conjunction

The big planetary hook-up on the horizon, is the Dec. 11 Jupiter-Pluto conjunction at the 28th degree of Sagittarius.

Jupiter-Pluto
"French astrologer Andre Barbault relates this twelve-year cycle to the growth of international terrorism. As a cycle, it ought to relate to the development of plutocratic as well as political power. Arch Crawford has evidence for it's impact on economic cycles. Reinhold Ebertin relates this combination to the attainment of power of all kinds, be it physical, material, mental, or spiritual. The conjunctions in the past century occurred in 1894, 1906, 1918, 1931, 1943, 1955/56, 1968, 1981, and 1994."(Charles Harvey, Mundane Astrology)

As the conjunction of Jupiter and Pluto falls in Sagittarius- this cycle is linked to the trend of religious(JU) extremism(PL)- as well as massive(PL), spiritual growth(JU), in a more positive sense. We may assume that the rule of law, and the courts that define or regulate such laws, will play a key role in the unfolding of this cycle. The supreme court, for instance, wields enormous influence as an agent of the reigning plutocracy. And President Bush has helped elect judges that favor a more conservative agenda, aligned with his dogmatic(PL) ideology(JU).

The prospect of more anxiety regarding loan defaults, the subsequent credit crisis, and growing U.S. foreign debt, relates to the 8th house placement of the Jupiter-0-Pluto at DC. I would also anticipate some profound changes(PL) in the travel industry(JU), and educational systems(JU), over the next 12 years. Moreover, as Pluto(plutonium) has an affinity with all things nuclear- an expansion(JU) in the use of nuclear power and technology, is therefore signified.

The current Middle East summit in Anapolis, MD, and the UN Climate Change conference in Bali, are both furthered by the influence of the Jupiter-Pluto conjunction in the international sign of Sagittarius.

At the minute(7:26 pm, GMT) Jupiter and Pluto conjoin, these planets are sharply focused at the longitude of Delhi(conjunct the Nadir). This suggests that the ideas seeded at the conjunction, will find fertile ground in India, as this planetary cycle unfolds.

On a personal level, I see the Jupiter-Pluto conjunction as a symbol of tremendous faith and optimism(JU), that transforms(PL). No matter how dark the world seems at times- we're lost without faith in the goodness of life, and hope for a better future.

Update: Dec. 5, 2007
Supreme Court Showdown on Detainees
"The US Supreme Court is holding a hearing on Wednesday(Dec.5) in two cases that are being seen as a legal showdown over the Guantanamo Bay detention camp in Cuba.

The cases challenge the removal by an act of Congress of the prisoners' right of habeas corpus to take their cases to US civilian courts.

If the court rules in favour of the prisoners, indefinite detention under military control at Guantanamo Bay could be declared unlawful."

Thai King Celebrates 80th Birthday

BANGKOK, Thailand (AP) -
"Thailand celebrated King Bhumibol Adulyadej's 80th birthday Wednesday with festivities, prayers and a nationwide effort to wear yellow - the color that symbolizes devotion to the world's longest-reigning monarch.

Bhumibol's birthday has increasingly become a day of nationwide tribute to the man who is regarded the most influential figure in modern Thai history and the key to the country's stability.

This year's celebration was clouded by nationwide anxiety over Bhumibol's declining health, concerns about his eventual successor and a chaotic political situation ahead of divisive elections later this month.

The Dec. 23 election will be the first since a September 2006 coup toppled the elected government of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, whom the king had criticized in previous birthday speeches.

Unity of the nation has become Bhumibol's recurring theme in recent speeches.

"I am glad that everyone has come together in unison to give me birthday wishes," he told the crowd Wednesday, seated on a golden throne and dressed in a gold brocade robe.

The comments echoed his televised birthday speech the night before, when Bhumibol repeatedly called for national unity. He likened the country's situation to difficulties he has in walking. Bhumibol was recently hospitalized for three weeks for symptoms of a stroke, the latest of many ailments, and now uses a walker.

Bhumibol was born on Dec. 5, 1927, in Cambridge, Mass., where his father, Prince Mahidol, was studying medicine at Harvard University. At the age of 19, he became the ninth king of Thailand's Chakri dynasty on June 9, 1946.

Though he is a constitutional king with no formal political role, he is regarded as the axle that holds the country together. Bhumibol has stilled bloody uprisings, weathered military coups and has reigned through scores of governments, democratic and dictatorial. In his six decades on the throne, he took an active role in rural development and is respected for his dedication to helping the country's poor.

People traveled to Bangkok from cities around Thailand, hoping to catch a glimpse of the beloved monarch."

A distinguishing feature of King Bhumibol's horoscope, is the Sun-Saturn conjunction in the sign of Sagittarius. This contact denotes a spiritual leader, that can bring long-term goals to fruition, through steady effort.

In the Spring of 2008, the Saturn transit to his progressed Sun suggests a difficult period regarding his health, and further limited vitality, if not death.
